The e-mail was sent specifically to your e-mail address, to which it is linked. At the bottom of this e-mail, there is a "Safe Unsubscribe" message intended for you - no one else. It includes your e-mail address.

When you forward this e-mail, you must erase this message, including your e-mail address. If you do not, it is possible that one of the people you sent it to will "unsubscribe" you. They may not realize that they are unsubscribing you and not themselves or they may be doing it intentionally. Over the years, this has happened to several people. SHAMROCK STABLE UPDATE
closed as of June 7th
Shamrock Stables closed this past Monday, June 7th. However, the owners are still in business. The horses were sent to the other NYC stables and some to a farm in Pennsylvania. Please see the NY Times article. At Long Last, Stables Are Empty - By EMILY B. HAGER

From the article: Sixteen of the 22 horses quartered at Shamrock, including Joey, were relocated to other stables in the city - Chateau Farms on West 48th Street and West Side Livery on West 38th Street. The other six - Bosco, Molly, Chestnut, Max, Patty and Jeter (as in Derek) - were trucked to Mr. McKeever's farm in Morgantown, Pa., outside of Reading.

NOBLE HORSES
a poem to the horses by Jacqueline
Shamrock Stable Standing for hours in a dark dank stall eyes fixed only on a dirty wall ...... Standing on the street in the blazing, burning heat. Walking on the ice, the frozen snow and sleet.

Noble creatures, kind, forgiving sentenced to years of unnatural living. ...... Misery, sorrow and perhaps tomorrow, the auction house the slaughterhouse.

GILI ISLANDS - HELL FOR CARRIAGE HORSES
Please sign petition
gili islands Gili Islands in Indonesia is a paradise for people but hell on earth for its carriage horses. Please click here to sign the petition Gili Islands - Tropical Paradise or Hell on Earth for Carriage horses? (answer - it is hell on earth) This petition is created by tourists who have made the pledge not to visit these islands near Bali until the business leaders and the Minister of Tourism take this issue seriously, retire the horses to a sanctuary and replace them with PEDICABS.

Jakarta Animal Aid Network is working on this issue and will use these signatures to pressure business leaders to take positive action. Because tourism will suffer, it may well be a great opportunity to help these horses. See the video on New Tang Dynasty Television. Poor Treatment of Horses Threatens Tourism in Indonesia

PHILADELPHIA - DOG BITES CARRIAGE HORSE
philly pit bull This is a very sad story for both animals: Old City Carriage Horse Injured in Attack by Pit Bull - by KYW's Hadas Kuznits - An unusual animal-on-animal attack took place today in Old City, when a pit bull attacked a carriage horse. This witness describes what he saw: "The dog was underneath the four legs of the horse, trying to jump up for its neck, and was biting the chest of the horse." Melissa Levy (right), with the animal rescue organization PAWS, confirms that the pit bull was a rescue dog named Kelly: "Kelly is a dog who we rescued after she had been thrown from a moving car on Kelly Drive. She was out for a walk and I think got spooked by all of the traffic and the noise and a horse being really close to her, and she just slipped out of her collar and reacted."

She says the carriage horse was carrying passengers but nobody was hurt: "And we're working with the owner of the horse to make sure that both animals get the care that they need."

KRAKOW, POLAND
Horses facing heat in market square
Krakow Horses Facing the Heat on Market Square Krakow Post Anna Wontorczyk | 8th June 2010 - Are carriage drivers breaking their agreement with the city? Despite double digit temperatures in Krakow, horses on the Market Square are still being forced to work for their hay. Carriage drivers say they will gladly park their carriages somewhere in the shade and give their horses a break as long as they have a thermometer that tells them that it is, in fact, too hot. The city of Krakow is set to install a thermometer on the Sukiennice this summer, but until it is in place, carriage drivers will decide for themselves when to stop working. According to the agreement signed last summer, a carriage cannot stand on the square between noon and 5 pm, when temperatures reach their maximum. In the next few days temperatures could reach over 30 degrees Celsius, but only time will tell if the drivers feel the heat.
