Coloring Dear Friends,

As the memories settle from your Thanksgiving dinner, we hope that you all find yourselves anticipating a beautiful holiday season. Young Audiences of Massachusetts is looking forward to ringing in the New Year!

As we look forward to the coming year, we would like to ask for your help in identifying sites for our spring showcase, slated for March or April, 2008. Spring Showcase is a great time to get ideas for the next school year, and to start scheduling those artists whose schedules fill up really quickly. Be sure to check out this month's featured artist as well!

Spring Showcase 2008
Send your application in soon!

Young Audiences is looking for elementary or middle schools to host the Spring 2008 Showcase in March or April. Showcase is a fantastic opportunity for schools and scheduling sponsors alike to see previews of their favorite YA artists. Generally running from 9:00am to 1:00pm, each artist presents their interactive art form for approximately twenty minutes.

Why host a Showcase?
The Showcase allows you to expose your students to a number of teaching artists at minimal cost to you. At the fall showcase, students and sponsors at The Cottage Street School in Sharon, MA enjoyed 19 performances and workshops by Young Audiences' artists!

What role does the school and PTO play at Showcase?
The sponsoring school and PTO provide three or more performance spaces, students to attend each program, basic equipment, and refreshments for attendees. They also get the word out by inviting other area principals and PTO members, and contacting local papers.

Featured Artist of the Month:
Promised Land

Expand on the meaning of Thanksgiving by having YA artist Promised Land bring the music of The Immigrant Experience to your school. By weaving a rich tapestry of personal stories and songs from many cultures, this program celebrates diversity and validates the uniqueness of each individual. Listen to the odysseys of people who found themselves on a new continent, faced with overwhelming challenges and opportunities as you trace the story of immigrants who left the "Old World" in search of a better life in America, "The Land of Opportunity." Hear the sounds of many instruments, including the mandocello, bones, dumbek, guitar, banjo, jaw harp, tambourine, string bass, recorder, penny whistle, fiddle, Native American flute, and spoons! Students will discover their own stories as they participate in this musical voyage!
