This Month's Skin Tip 8 Foods That Boost Collagen
Your skin is the largest organ of the body, feed it well! Consider adding these foods for healthier looking skin!
- Orange Vegetables: Restore and Regenerate Vegetables that are orange in color, like carrots, are rich in vitamin A, which restores and regenerates damaged collagen.
- Water-Rich Vegetables: Key for Collagen Production Veggies like cucumber and celery have a high sulfur content which is important in collagen production.
- Fish: Creates Stronger Cells "Fish like tuna and salmon are loaded with omega-3 fatty acids," says New York City nutritionist Brooke Alpert. Skin cells are surrounded by a fatty membrane that protects them. When the cells are healthy, they are able to support the structure of the skin.
- Soy: Blocks Aging Whether sourced from soy milk, cheese or tofu, soy contains genistein (plant hormones that serve as antioxidants), which prompts collagen production and helps to block enzymes, like MMPs, that can age the skin.
- Berries: Ward off Damage Blackberries and raspberries scavenge free radicals while simultaneously increasing collagen levels.
- Dark Green Vegetables: Rev Up Collagen Production Rich in vitamin C, dark green veggies like spinach and kale can rev up collagen production. In topical products, "vitamin C has antioxidizing properties that stabilize the messenger enzymes that break collagen down. It also protects against free radicals to prevent weak collagen." says Dr. Palceski.
- Red Vegetables: Natural Form of SPF Tomatoes, peppers and beets contain the antioxidant lycopene. "Lycopene also acts as a natural sun block, protecting the skin from damage while increasing collagen levels," explains Alpert.
- White Tea: Supports Structure According to research conducted by Kingston University and Neal's Yard Remedies, white tea may protect the structural proteins of the skin, specifically collagen. It's believed to prevent enzyme activity that breaks down collagen, contributing to lines and wrinkles.

Choosing the Best Hair Dryer For You
While finding the perfect hair dryer won't guarantee perfect hair days, it can be a great help in achieving your selected hairstyle. The
right blow dryer can also help you achieve your hairstyle with more speed and less hassle if
you know how to make the best selection for your particular hair type
and situation. Points to consider:
- Look for a nozzle attachment.
When added to
your blow dryer, it allows the flow of warm air to be more focused. It's particularly effective for straightening your hair
as it tends to have a smoothing effect on the hair shaft when directed
downwards. - Consider the number of heat settings.
Several heat settings are ideal. At the very least, you'll
need a hot or warm setting and a cooler one. The cooler setting will
come in handy if you have damaged hair or just want to seal the cuticle, which helps hold your hairstyle in place. Use hotter settings for
undamaged hair.
- Choose a wattage that dries your hair fast. The wattage of a
hair dryer can run as high as 2000 watts, but all that power isn't
necessary. You can get by with as little as 1800 watts and still get
your hair dry in a timely manner. If you have the money and you're
really pressed for time, you may want to consider the newer thermal
styling tools that use negative ionic energy to dry your hair in about
half the time of a conventional blow dryer. They will cost you more, however. These dryers tend to infuse more
moisture into your hair during the drying process which can help to
keep your hair healthier.
- Consider the weight of your selected blow dryer. If you
have a small hand and long hair, holding a heavy blow dryer for long
periods of time to get your long hair dry may cause hand fatigue.
Choosing the best blow dryer for your hair shouldn't cost you a fortune.
A decent blow dryer that will work for most hair types can be found for
under $50.00. This is a small investment, considering it can not only enhance the look of your hair but also be a great
time saver!

Random Tips Good to know!
- Patent leather handbags and shoes can be quickly brightened with a polish of milk. Apply with a soft cloth and rub in to renew!
- Corners cut from used envelopes make great bookmarks. They just slip over the page you wish to mark.
- It's easy to read a rain gauge if you put a few drops of food coloring in the tube. Even if the colored water dries up, there is enough residue to help read the next rainfall.
