Looking for something fun to do this week? M-NCPPC Parks and Recreation has a lot of activities for everyone in Prince George's County! Attend the 2012 Lake Arbor Jazz Festival; be entertained at the 6th annual Hip Hop Poetry Choir performance; explore different themes of 18th century life at Montpelier Mansion/Historic Site, and enjoy FREE summer concerts and shows with your friends and family at M-NCPPC venues throughout the county. Make time to explore parks and facilities and enjoy the healthy, fun recreation programs and activities that we offer!

r1Attend the 2012 Lake Arbor Jazz Festival

Bring your friends and family to the third annual Lake Arbor Jazz Festival at Lake Arbor Community Center on July 14 from 12 noon-9 pm. Held in partnership with M-NCPPC and the Prince George's Cultural Arts Foundation, the event will feature some of the area's finest jazz and R&B groups. Read more. 
Register for Rock the Boat Cruise

Youth ages 13-17 are invited to rock the waves on the Spirit of Washington boat cruise on July. The evening includes dinner, a live DJ, and dancing. Safe Summer sites throughout Prince George's County will provide free transportation to and from the centers. Please call a Safe Summer site near you for more information.

Beltsville Community Center has a great selection of summer classes and events during the month of July. Enjoy outdoor jazz concerts on July 14 & 28 at 7 pm. Also, there's still time to register your child (ages 8-12) in the facility's aerospace course (#993015), which runs from July 9-19, and video game design course (#992965), which runs from July 23-August 3. Experience life during the 18th century

Montpelier Mansion/Historic Site hosts Destination 18th Century: A Week of Hands-On History Days for Kids from August 6-10. Children ages 8-12 can explore a different colonial theme each day including "Native American Day," when kids will learn some of the traditions and lore of American Indians, "Militia Day," when kids will experience different aspects of military life, and "Parlor Day," when kids will learn about the rituals of tea, play parlor games, and learn other "social skills" of the 18th century. The Expressions: Talk Up, Not Down program presents the sixth annual Hip-Hop Poetry Choir performance at the Bowie Center for the Performing Arts on July 13, 7 pm. This performance features works of poetry by 30 talented young people who participated in the Expressions program and worked with professional poets to create poetry as a tool for positive expressions. The performance is FREE and open to the public; tickets are not required. Read more. Learn more
Save the date: Hispanic Heritage Celebration

Mark your calendars for the first annual Hispanic Heritage Celebration at Mount Rainier Nature Center on September 29! This FREE event will feature live music, a health fair, children's activities, soccer clinics, food and craft vendors, and more!
