Enjoy international fun at the Festival of Nations; check out a new farmers market; watch a live storytelling performance; attend Beltsville Day and a Zumba block party, and participate in fun, safe aquatics activities in honor of National Water Safety Month. festival of nations
Join us for the 2012 Festival of Nations to celebrate the cultural diversity of Prince George's County! Stop by Tucker Road Athletic Complex on May 20 between 12 noon and 5 pm (rain or shine) for this terrific event. International food, crafts, customs and traditions will be featured. Enjoy festive performances, visual and performing arts, games, vendors, displays, exhibits, craft sales, and more. Admission is FREE; nominal fees charged for some activities and concessions. Be entertained by storytelling performances

Watkins Nature Center in Upper Marlboro presents a storytelling performance of "Coyote Gets A Cadillac" on May 19 from 6:30-8 pm. Coyote and some of the world's greatest characters from oral traditions will be brought to life in the language art of storyteller Susan Strauss. Enjoy stories from a variety of cultures, including some of Strauss' renowned Native American Coyote Trickster Tales. All ages; reservations and advance payment are required. Learn more.

Sign-up today for an 8-week, high intensity and interval training program that is designed to get you in great shape! The POWERADE ZERO Zero Excuses Bootcamp program for those ages 18 & up includes intense cardio activity and strength training exercises using dumbbells, resistance bands, and other fitness props. The program will be held on Monday & Wednesday mornings from 6:15-7:15 am beginning May 21 through July 18 (SMARTlink course #904115), and Tuesday & Thursday evenings from 5:15-6:15 pm beginning May 29 through July 19 (SMARTlink course #915215).

Mark your calendars for Glenarden Community Center's Zumba Block Party on May 19 from 4-7 pm. Participate in aerobic demonstrations and toning exercises brought you by Club Rachel Zumba. Calling all seniors ages 60 & better! Join M-NCPPC as we celebrate National Senior Health & Fitness Day on May 23 from 8 am-1 pm at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex. A variety of FREE fitness, exercise, and aquatic classes will be held, along with educational sessions. Take advantage of FREE health screenings and pick up valuable, FREE information from exhibitors. Learn more.

M-NCPPC's outdoor pools will be open during the weekends beginning May 26 at 12 noon. Join us at one of these participating outdoor pool facilities on Opening Day to receive information on our "Aqua Access" programs. The first 150 children at each participating pool location will receive a FREE water safety gift!

The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission and the Maryland Small Business Development Center have partnered with Iverson Mall and Healthy Heights to bring a Farmers Market to the St. Barnabas Road and Branch Avenue corridor. The Branch Avenue In Bloom Farmers Market is open on Saturdays from 9 am-2 pm through November. Residents can purchase fresh produce and hand-made crafts on the parking lot of Iverson Mall. Attend Beltsville Day

Join us for Beltsville Day on May 20! Bring your friends and family to Beltsville Community Center and experience an exciting day of games, entertainment, crafts, food and more! The fun begins at 12 noon and ends at 5 pm. Admission is FREE! A nominal fee will be charged for games, food, and crafts. Learn more.

M-NCPPC needs your help in collecting books for this summer's Drop Everything and Read (D.E.A.R.) program. From now through May 31, please donate a new or gently-used book at one of our assigned central area locations in Prince George's County. Your donations are greatly appreciated as they will help our summer participants reach their goal of reading two hours per week! Learn more.

In observance of "National Water Safety Month," the Department of Parks & Recreation is hosting several FREE water safety events this month. These FREE programs include an interactive, aquatics education session, water safety programs for youth and individuals with disabilities, introductory swim lessons, a home pool safety workshop, info sessions on how to become a certified Water Safety instructor, and more. Programs are being conducted at aquatics facilities throughout the county. Learn more.
