FREE health screening and discussion
health screeningGet your FREE comprehensive cholesterol screening and attend a FREE cardiovascular health lecture (featuring Dr. Chaudhry M.D., F.A.C.P.) at Beltsville Community Center on Wednesday, July 20 at 5 pm.  Fasting is not necessary, but you may fast if you prefer. Dr. Chaudhry will discuss the basics of cholesterol, health risks of high cholesterol and natural alternatives to lower cholesterol. A Q&A session will follow the lecture. This event is sponsored by Real Natural Remedies.

Play ball
softball gameTeam registrations for men's, women's and coed adult (16 & older) slow pitch softball leagues are now being accepted for the 10-game fall season. Games begin the week of September 6 and will be played at Watkins Regional Park (Upper Marlboro), Fairland Regional Park (Laurel) and Tucker Road Complex (Fort Washington). You choose the night and location for play. Fees are $350 for bi-county teams and $410 for non bi-county teams. Entry deadline is Thursday, August 4. For information call 301-446-6800.
Tumbling clinics
gymnastics girlThe Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex is offering tumbling clinics throughout the summer for youth (ages 6-18) interested in learning or improving tumbling and cheerleading skills. These weekend clinics for beginner, intermediate and advanced levels cost $25 per child for each 2-hour clinic. Learn more.
Festivities featuring flight
airmail costumeHave your child's birthday party at College Park Aviation Museum! The museum hosts Aviation Adventure Birthday Parties for boys and girls ages 3 to 12. Each party includes an aviation-themed craft, museum exploration, and a private party room. Learn more.
Watch the birdies
bird in treeThe Luther Goldman Birding Trail, located at Lake Artemesia, attracts both expert and novice bird watchers hoping to glimpse finches, orioles, ibis, and other birds. This popular park has a 38-acre lake with an accessible fishing pier and aquatic gardens. More than two miles of hiker-biker trails surround and connect the lake with Calvert Road Park and College Park Airport and Aviation Museum. Stop by any day between sunrise and sunset.
Volunteer with us
teen volunteersOpportunities to volunteer with the Department of Parks and Recreation are almost unlimited. Help out at a one-day special event or assist on an ongoing basis. Earn student service learning hours, fill some retirement hours, or learn new career skills. And a great big thank you goes to those who've already volunteered; we'd love to have you join us again!
