| FREE fitness programs this month | Eat well, exercise regularly and maintain a healthy lifestyle. In celebration of 2011 National Fitness Month, the Department of Parks and Recreation invites Prince George's County families to take part in FREE fitness activities throughout May. Fitness activities will be hosted at M-NCPPC parks and recreation venues throughout the county. Activities offered include scenic walks, a Double-Dutch clinic, strength training, ZUMBA, kayaking, and health screenings. | What will YOU do during National Water Safety Month?

In observance of "National Water Safety Month," the Department of Parks & Recreation is hosting several FREE water safety events this month. These FREE programs include an interactive aquatics education session, water safety programs, introductory swim lessons, a shallow water aerobics program, a learn-to-swim workshop and more. Programs are being conducted at aquatics facilities throughout the county. For detailed information, read more here.

| Learn about go-go's and gangs from Park Police
| Parents are invited to attend an informative discussion about gangs and go-go's at Session 3 of the Parent X-Change series. Experts will discuss the culture of gangs and go-go music in Prince George's County. Parents may attend this FREE discussion on Thursday, May 19 from 7-9 pm at Kettering Middle School (65 Herrington Drive, Upper Marlboro 20772). For more information call staff at 301-446-6866. |
| Got woodlands?
| The Prince George's County Planning Department, in partnership with Forestry for the Bay, the Bay Bank, and the Maryland Department of Natural Resources is sponsoring a workshop for citizens with woodlands on their property. This event will take place on Saturday, May 21 from 8:45 am-3 pm at the Schmidt Center (18501 Aquasco Road, Brandywine, 20613). | Celebrate Prince George's County's diverse cultures
| Join us for the 2011 Festival of Nations to celebrate the cultural diversity of Prince George's County! Stop by Tucker Road Athletic Complex (1770 Tucker Road, Fort Washington) on Sunday May 22 between 12 noon and 5 pm (rain or shine) for this terrific event. International food, crafts, customs and traditions will be featured. Enjoy performances, visual and performing arts, games, vendors, displays, exhibits, craft sales, and an exciting interactive children's area with character artists drawing, moon bounces and more. Who doesn't love a day filled with family fun, great food and live blues entertainment!? Join us on Saturday, June 4, from 12 noon-5 pm at Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro for the Beltway BBQ Showdown. The Kansas City Barbeque Society will highlight the art of barbequing in Prince George's County. Come meet a few east coast BBQ competitors, vote in the "people's choice" sauce contest and also purchase and taste top quality BBQ from competitors. Enjoy an exciting interactive children's play area, games and a moon bounce. Admission is FREE; nominal fees charged for some activities and merchandise vending.
