picture frame 2Stop by Prince George's Plaza Community Center (Hyattsville) during operating hours to see "Reflections," an art exhibit featuring works by local Hyattsville artists. This exhibit showcases works that reflect diversity, texture, winter, cold, and struggle, and runs through Saturday, February 26. For more information call staff at 301-864-1611.

billingsley house museumBillingsley House Museum is hosting a powerful exhibit, One Woman's Lasting Legacy: Henrietta Lacks, throughout February. This exhibit is FREE and open to the public on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9 am-3 pm. Ms. Lacks, a black tobacco farmer from southern Virginia, was diagnosed with cervical cancer at the age of 30. Learn about her extraordinary life, her struggles, and the legacy she left that changed modern medicine. Please call staff at 301-627-0730 for driving directions to this venue.

black history coverNoted historian, lecturer and author C.R. Gibbs will speak about some of Africa's greatest contributions to America. Those ages 10 & up are invited to attend this FREE presentation at Oakcrest Community Center (Capitol Heights) on Tuesday, February 1 at 7 pm. C.R. Gibbs is an expert on subjects relating to the African Diaspora and is a renowned historian. For information call 301-736-5355.

zomema africa danceZomema African Dance Ensemble will give a FREE performance at North Brentwood Community Center on Saturday, February 5 at 1 pm. The high-energy show will feature exciting rhythms, colorful attire, and masterful choreography by Nigerian native Becky Umeh. seeking centernariansThe Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation is collecting information about county residents who are ages 90 & older. Special recognition will be given to centenarians  - residents 100 years old & older - at the Centenarian Event in spring. We need your help identifying Prince George's County residents ages 90 & above. If you know a county resident who will be 90 years old or older as of December 31, 2011 (county residents born on or before December 31, 1921), please share the information with us here. Your help is greatly appreciated!

winter watkins regional parkDid you know that Old Maryland Farm (Upper Marlboro) offers pony rides and group hayrides even during the winter months? Winter pony rides are offered on Saturdays, from 11-11:45 am. The fee is $3/rider and rides are available for those ages 2 & up (weight limit is 145 lbs).  Winter hayrides are available for groups of 10 or more. The fee is $1/person. Call 301-218-6770 for information and reservations.
