The Prince George's County Your Guide to Park and Recreation Classes and Activities contains articles on exciting new recreation opportunities, lists of classes available in the coming months, a Main Events calendar, historic sites, performances, nature center activities, and more! Go to www.pgparks.com and download the Winter Guide or sign up to receive publications in the mail. Registration begins Monday, November 15.

doussou kouibalyOn Friday and Saturday, November 12 and 13 at 8 pm, Doussou Koulibaly, the former lead singer of Canada's SoulJazz Orchestra, will perform at the Prince George's Publick Playhouse in Cheverly, MD. Think "Fela!" with a Reggae mix--this African born singer fuses her cultural roots with rap, soul and blues, as she breaks ancient traditions by playing instruments formerly reserved for men. Backed by her six-piece band, she delivers a spiritual, smooth jazz, and inspirational performance on her international tour. Tickets are $18/person; $12/students & seniors 60 & better. watkins nature center recycle logoJoin us for "Trash to Treasure," our second annual green craft fair at Watkins Nature Center on Saturday, November 13, from 10 am-4 pm. This indoor craft fair will feature local artists, non-profit environmental groups, crafts for kids and more!  Vendors will be on site selling items made from reused, recycled, responsibly harvested/natural/sustainable or environmentally friendly products. craft fair itemsStart your holiday shopping early with the 35th Annual Holiday Craft Fair at Deerfield Run Community Center in Laurel, MD, on Sunday, November 14, from 11 am-4 pm. Artists and crafts people will be selling a variety of gifts, decorations, holiday creations and baked goods. Register for holiday workshops and great door prizes! This event, sponsored by the South Laurel Recreation Council and M-NCPPC, is targeted to ages 8 & up. Admission and parking is FREE. wedding cakesPlanning your special event should be fun! Take the stress out of finding that perfect vendor by attending Oxon Hill Manor's Vendor Showcase on Sunday, November 14, from 1-4 pm. Meet and talk to some of the area's finest event vendors, as well as gather invaluable tips on budgeting and planning your special event. Taste scrumptious samples from a variety of caterers, watch a bridal fashion show, and enjoy yourself. Adults ages 18 & up are welcome to participate. Admission is $5/person. icehockeyWells Ice Rink, at 5211 Paint Branch Parkway, College Park, MD, is offering a class for kids interested in playing ice hockey, and in need of the equipment and skating skills to get started. "Give it a Shot", is a program designed for kids ages 4-12 who have a desire to play ice hockey; no skating experience necessary. Students will be taught basic hockey skating techniques and rules, and gain the confidence to play the game. Classes are $80/resident; $96 non-resident. Class meets Saturdays, November 13 - December 18, from 5-6 pm. Fees include the hockey equipment, including rental skates, helmet w/ face mask, pants, hockey stick, hockey gloves, and jersey. All Mixed Up exhibition postcard
The Brentwood Arts Exchange is hosting a juried exhibition called "All Mixed Up", featuring a selection of the best mixed media work by artists living, working and studying in Prince George's County. This FREE contemporary art exhibit has been described as "dynamic, layered, textured and a little weird," all of what makes contemporary art so exciting. The exhibit is being featured at the Brentwood Arts Exchange Mondays - Saturdays, from November 1-November 27. Gallery hours: Mondays-Fridays, 10 am-8 pm; Saturdays, 10 am-6 pm; and Sundays, closed.
