celebrate baden bannerCelebrate 40 years of community service with Baden Community Center, Baden Elementary School and the Baden public library and health clinic, on Saturday, August 28 from 12 noon to 5 pm at Baden Community Center in Brandywine, Maryland. Enjoy FREE food, music, entertainment for all ages, historical archives, story time, school tours, health screenings and more! There is a minor fee for some activities. swim teamWish you could've competed with the Prince George's PRIDE swim team this summer? Good news!  PRIDE is beginning a year-round program for the first time and youth ages 6-17 are invited to register. PRIDE will train between September 2010 and May 2011 on Tuesdays and Fridays from 6-7 pm, and Sundays from 1-3 pm at the Robert I. Bickford Natatorium at Prince George's Community College. trap_skeetDid you know that M-NCPPC offers a year-round, recreational trap, skeet and sporting clay shooting facility in Glenn Dale, MD? The Prince George's County Trap and Skeet Center provides general public shooting and league shooting in sporting clays, trap, skeet, five-stand, international bunker, and international skeet. Competitive and instructional programs are offered, and the center is available for corporate events. Classes, clinics, private instruction and a Saturday morning youth program are available year-round. Call for dates and times. Pre-registration recommended. cpam old planeCollege Park Airport was only the beginning of flying in Prince George's County. Learn more about the county's aviation heritage on the Historic Airports Tour at the College Park Aviation Museum on Saturday, August 28 from 10 am-4 pm. Lunch is not provided, but a lunch stop will be scheduled. Reservations are required. Ages 18 and up are invited to participate; Fee: $5/person. tae kwon doRegistration is now open for fall classes! Check out some of the great classes being offered this fall at Bladensburg Community Center. Adults and Young Adults can register for the following classes: Aerobics (16yrs. & up), African Dance (14yrs. & up), Tae Kwon Do (18yrs. & up), Money Management (18yrs. & up), and Parenting 101 (13-25yrs.). Seniors ages 60 & better can register for Senior Weight Training and Senior Fitness classes. Parents can enroll youth in Modeling (5-9 yrs.; and 10-13yrs.), Creative Writing (14-18yrs.), Tae Kwon Do (3-17yrs.), Drama (7-13yrs.) and Basketball (5-8yrs.). Bladensburg Community Center even has classes for toddlers (4-6yrs.) including T-Ball and Soccer. There's something for everyone! ice skating groupTucker Road Ice Rink's Learn to Skate program has joined hands with U.S. Figure Skating (USFS), the national governing body of ice skating in the United States. Serving the needs of both recreational and competitive skaters, USFS is the leading learn to skate program in the U.S. The new curriculum is designed to be fun, challenging, and rewarding, and will enable skaters of all ages and abilities to learn the fundamentals of the sport, and begin a lifetime commitment to health and wellness. between fences logoAs part of the Smithsonian Institution's "Museums on Main Street" initiative, Montpelier Mansion will be home to Between Fences, a traveling exhibit that tells the stories of fences and barriers across the U.S. "Barriers and Gateways: The Immigrant Experience" is a companion exhibit and programming that focuses on the metaphorical boundaries faced by immigrants throughout history. Have fun at ages 60 & better more
seniors on bus tourThe Prince George's County Department of Parks and Recreation is dedicated to providing residents who are 60 years and better with exciting social activities. On Saturday, August 28, seniors are invited to join us for a trip to Wolf Trap in Vienna, VA to see The Ultimate Doo-Wop Show. The trip departs from Gwendolyn Britt Senior Activity Center at 5:30 pm and returns back to the center at approximately 11:30 pm. Fees (for concert ticket plus transportation) are $52/resident and $63/non-resident. For show details and to register online, visit SMARTlink and browse barcode # 257714. Also, seniors can now register for the Murder Mystery Dinner Cruise. Please note the date has changed to Saturday, September 25, from 3:30-10:30pm. Come aboard the Choptank River Queen riverboat and prepare yourself for an exciting evening of theatrical fun as you try to determine who the "guilty party" is, all while dinning on a delicious buffet prepared by The Suicide Bridge Restaurant.
