2010 Fall Guide CoverThe Fall 2010 edition of Your Guide to Parks and Recreation Classes, Programs and Events is now available. Learn all about the great park and recreation programs, facilities and services available to you. Registration for classes in the Fall Guide begins on Monday, August 16 for Prince George's County residents and Monday, August 23 for all others. If you don't have a copy, read it on line here or pick one up at any staffed M-NCPPC facility in Prince George's County, or any public library in the county. Eat, feel the beat, & tap your feet more
Bill MorganfieldSaturday, August 14, is the date and 7 pm is the time. It's The 3rd Annual Juke Joint Saturday's Red Hot Funk-N-Blues BBQ. Starring Big Bill Morganfield (son of the legendary Muddy Waters), the show also features Sugar Bear w/E.U. and special guests Warner Williams and Jay Summerour. Tickets ($40/person) include the foot stompin,' toe tappin,' all-star musical lineup, as well as a fabulous belt bustin` bbq buffet featuring ribs, grilled roasted chicken, smoked brisket, green beans, corn bread muffins, sweet tea & more! Youth ages 12-17 are invited to attend a Splash Bash Pool Party at any of three different aquatic venues. In conjunction with the 2010 Safe Summer program, pool parties will be held from 8-11 pm on Saturday, August 14 at Allentown Fitness & Splash Park (Fort Washington), Rollingcrest-Chillum Splash Pool (Chillum), and the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex (Landover).
Enjoy music from the hottest DJ's, FREE food and prizes at the biggest pool parties ever! FREE transportation will be provided to & from Safe Summer sites in Prince George's County. Read more.

oxon hill manorDon't miss a live performance by The Bill Thomas Trio (featuring R&B and jazz) at Oxon Hill Manor on Wednesday, August 18 at 7 pm. (Doors open at 6:30 pm.) Enjoy the elegant grandeur of the manor's interior and exterior including beautiful English gardens, a rose-wrapped reflecting pool and a view of the Potomac. Chairs, refreshments, the performance and a tranquil/relaxing atmosphere are included in ticket price - $15/adult and FREE/children ages 10 & under. Payment, via cash, Visa or MasterCard, is accepted at the door. In case of rain or extreme heat, concert will be held indoors. For more information call 301-839-7782.

Pride Swim TeamThe Prince George's PRIDE swim team, for youth ages 6-17, is beginning a year-round program for the first time!  The PRIDE will be using the Robert I. Bickford Natatorium at Prince George's Community College three days per week between September 2010 and May 2011. The team plans to compete in meets beginning in January 2011 and welcomes new members!  Register through SMARTlink or contact Coach Darius at [email protected] for more information!

ice skatersTucker Road Ice Rink's Learn to Skate program has joined hands with U.S. Figure Skating (USFS), the national governing body of ice skating in the United States. Serving the needs of both recreational and competitive skaters, USFS is the leading learn to skate program in the U.S. The new curriculum is designed to be fun, challenging, and rewarding, and will enable skaters of all ages and abilities to learn the fundamentals of the sport, and begin a lifetime commitment to health and wellness. hispanic festivalGrab a pen and mark you calendars. September will feature some super-duper programs and events at M-NCPPC sites throughout the county. Here's a sneak peak.... The 29th Festival Hispano will be held on September 19. Montpelier Mansion will host the local showing of Between Fences, a Smithsonian Institution traveling Exhibition, and Barriers and Gateways: The Immigrant Experience, a companion exhibit, from September 20-November 7. More than 20 great programs for seniors will take place during Active Aging Week (9/20-9/24). National Public Lands Day will be celebrated on September 25. Clearwater Nature Center's 6th Annual Nature Fair is scheduled for September 25. Family Health & Fitness Day will be held in College Park on September 25.
