summer concerts park familyWow, what a lineup for the Summer 2010 Performances, Concerts & Summer Cinema Series! Enjoy Jazz Under the Stars, Arts at the Waterfront, the 32nd Annual Montpelier Summer Concert Series, the Summer Jazz Concert Series, Jazz on the Lawn, Shakespeare in the Parks, Summer of Soul Outdoor Concerts, Concerts in the Park!, Outdoor Summer Cinema 2010 and an outdoor concert at Snow Hill Manor. teen workshopParents are invited to attend an informative discussion about gangs and go-go's at Session 1 of the Parent X-Change series. In this first session, experts will discuss the influence that gangs and go-go's have on today's youth. Parents may attend this FREE discussion on Thursday, June 17 from 6:30-9 pm at the Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex (Landover) or on Thursday, June 24 from 6:30-8 pm at John E. Howard Community Center (Capitol Heights). Register through SMARTlink ; browse, then use the Advanced Search feature to find the facility location where you'll attend the lecture and sign up. child in lifejacket in poolHamilton Splash Park and North Barnaby Pool will open on Thursday, June 17! Come by and enjoy the improvements at these fun aquatic facilities. Additionally, all summer aquatic facilities will be open every day of the week beginning June 17; come on over for a swim!  Don't forget to check out all the great aquatics opportunities being offered this summer, including the Make-A-Splash Program, featuring FREE water safety classes for children, pre-teens, and teens;visit your local community center or swimming pool to register.  For more information about aquatics programming, learn more about Aqua Access here.

juneteenth celebrationEveryone's invited to a special Juneteenth celebration on Saturday, June 19 from 12 noon - 5 pm at Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro. This FREE community event observes Juneteenth, the nation's oldest celebration commemorating the end of slavery. Enjoy great, live musical and dance performances. Activities offered include a chess tournament and demonstrations, a kickball tournament, carnival games, pony rides and hayrides, jump rope demonstrations, interactive fun with the National Children's Museum, face painting, and more. Exhibitors and living history interpreters will be there, and Praise 104.1 will broadcast on site. The Afro-American Historical & Genealogical Society, Inc. and its partners will have exciting lectures and workshops. This Juneteenth celebration is hosted by Maryland State Senator Ulysses S. Currie, Prince George's County Council member Samuel H. Dean, and Samuel J. Parker, Jr., Chairman of the Prince George's County Planning Board of The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission. For more information click here.

teen festCounty residents ages 12-24 (and their parents) are invited to the FREE, Safe Summer Teen Fest Kick-off on Saturday, June 19, from 5-10 pm at Ellen Linson Swimming Pool (College Park). Start your summer off with great fun, and learn more about the Summer 2010 Safe Summer Program. Enjoy live entertainment, games, adventure sports, food, enrichment sessions and more.
