Learn to swim safely more
Make a SplashThe Department of Parks & Recreation has joined forces with the USA Swimming Foundation's "Make a Splash" initiative to offer FREE water safety & swim lessons to youth ages 6-17 in Prince George's County this summer. There are four "Make a Splash" sites including Allentown Fitness & Splash Park (Fort Washington), Fairland Aquatic Center (Laurel), Prince George's Sports & Learning Complex (Landover), and Rollingcrest-Chillum Splash Pool (Chillum). Classes will be offered in two, 4-week sessions on Friday evenings beginning June 18 and July 23.   Participants must have an M-NCPPC Youth ID to register for this program. Enjoy BBQ more
Beltway BBQ ShowdownWe're serving up twice the fun this year with two days of great tasting BBQ. On Friday, June 4 from 7 - 10 pm, check out what our teens are dishing out at the first-ever Xtreme Teens BBQ Grill Off. Visit www.pgxtremeteens.com for entertainment and activity highlights. Then on Saturday, June 5 from 12 noon to 5 pm come watch teams from up and down the east coast compete in the 4th Annual Beltway BBQ Showdown for bragging rights and a cash prize for the best tasting BBQ. Entertainment includes performances by blues groups, a classic car show, and games, face painting and crafts for the children. Both events are FREE, with minor charges for some activities, and will take place at Watkins Regional Park in Upper Marlboro, MD. For more information, call 301-627-2828.

National Trails DaySaturday, June 5 marks the 18th Annual National Trails Day, a long-standing celebration of America's magnificent trail system. National Trails Day is sponsored by the American Hiking Society, a national organization dedicated to promoting and protecting America's hiking trails. Take this opportunity to get outdoors and experience beautiful, natural areas of Prince George's County. Participate in a guided nature hike, bicycle tour, birding hike or kayak trip around the county. If you can't join us for a National Trails Day event, M-NCPPC maintains approximately 40 miles of paved and natural surface trails throughout the county that you can explore on your own. Riversdale House MuseumEarly 19th century America was greatly influenced by the classical world. Come to Riversdale House Museum on Saturday, June 5, 10 am & Sunday, June 6, 12 noon to celebrate ancient Rome. Enjoy battle demonstrations by Legion XX on the lawn and neoclassical pastimes inside the museum. Admission ($5/person; $3/student) includes all activities. All ages welcome. Envision logoOn June 11, 2010, join fellow Prince Georgians at the Envision Prince George's Economic Outlook Forum for the unveiling and launch of the Vision, Goals, and Action Agenda, which was developed by stakeholders during the  21st Century Town Meeting. This meeting will give residents a chance to discuss best practices to help bring the Vision for Prince George's County's future to life. Guest Speakers include: Alaina Beverly, Associate Director, White House Office of Urban Affairs; Shyam Kannan, LEED®AP, Vice President-Director of Research & Development, RCLCO Real Estate Advisors; and John D. Youth basketball leagueHave fun, play ball! Join the Co-ed In-House Basketball Summer League. No prior competitive basketball skills necessary. Summer leagues are being offered for youth ages 8-10 and 11-14, and will start on June 12 (12 weeks) at Beltsville Community Center. Online registration is available through SMARTlink.
