The Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission has lots to enjoy here in Prince George's County this week. Review the wonderful winter recreation classes and programs in the current GUIDE so you can sign up for all those that interest you. Come to an art exhibition, an ice skating party with a different twist, and a tailgate event for families. Explore the park system and enjoy the social, healthy, fun recreation programs and activities.

Find sports, arts, hobbies, nature, dance, trips, games and more. Winter registration begins today, Monday, November 16, for Prince George's County residents, and November 23 for everyone else. Paper call for entriesPaper, a juried exhibition of works on paper, is on display in the Main Gallery at
Montpelier Arts Center through November 29. This creative exhibition was juried by Susan Goldman. Stop by any day between 10 am and 5 pm to see works by 25 Prince George's County artists. The exhibition is FREE! For more information, call 301-377-7800 or 410-792-0664.
Pajama Party on Ice
ice skatingYou read it correctly!  Herbert Wells Ice Rink is hosting a pajama party on ice Saturday, November 21, from 8-10 pm. Slip on your warmest PJs and come out for a great time! Everyone wearing pajamas pays just $4 for admission with skate rental. (Leaving your jammies at home? Admission is $5 and skate rental is an additional $2.) For more information, call 301-277-3717.
A Family Pigskin Party
football ballRedskins fans, Cowboys fans, and all other NFL followers are invited to a tailgate and game-watching party at Stephen Decatur Community Center on Sunday, November 22. The party starts at 11 am. Enjoy pre-game events including NFL trivia challenges, a flag football game, and Madden NFL on PlayStation 3. When the football game begins at 1 pm, watch it on our 1080P, 110-inch, widescreen HDTV in surround sound. Fans of all ages are encouraged to wear their favorite NFL team colors Enjoy food and drink. Operation Make a Soldier Smile
giftsBe a Santa this season and make a soldier smile. M-NCPPC staff members are collecting gifts to be sent to our overseas troops. Items most frequently requested include white socks (crew & ankle length), trail mix, dried fruit, power bars, granola bars, baked cookies, DVD movies, and holiday greeting cards. Monetary donations to cover shipping costs are also greatly appreciated; checks may be made payable to the M-NCPPC Credit Union. A new trail for hikers and bikers
woodrow wilson bridgeSee familiar sites from a new perspective! The Woodrow Wilson Bridge Trail across the Potomac River is open for hiking and biking. Enjoy sweeping views of the metropolitan area skyline including National Harbor, downtown Washington, and Alexandria. The 3.5-mile trail runs between Oxon Hill Road at National Harbor Boulevard South in Prince George's County and Washington Street in Alexandria. From there you can enjoy the Mount Vernon Trail or Old Town Alexandria.  Free parking is available one block from National Harbor Boulevard South at the park-and-ride lot located at 6600 Oxon Hill Road. The Winter Festival of Lights at Watkins Park opens soon
FOL PenguinsThis month is known for elections and turkey dinners... and the opening of M-NCPPC's annual Winter Festival of Lights at Watkins Regional Park! The 23rd Annual Winter Festival of Lights will be open from Friday, November 27, through Sunday, January 3, from 5-9:30 pm. Enjoy spectacular displays featuring more than a million twinkling lights along a drive-through wonderland. Please bring canned goods for donation to local food banks. Admission fees are $5/cars & vans; $15/mini-buses & limos; $25/buses; $10/multi-visit passes for cars and vans. The festival is FREE on December 25.

Envision Prince George's
Calling on all to "Embrace the Possibilities", Envision Prince George's is the most comprehensive effort in the history of the county to engage the public in setting long-term priorities and action steps for the future. The centerpiece of Envision Prince George's is a series of five Community Forums that will be held throughout the county during November and December. The first Community Forum is Nov. 17 at the University of Maryland.
