Washington Revels
June 2012 News and Notes

At 7:09 pm Tuesday, the Summer Solstice arrived (in full heat!) and summer has officially begun!

We had a fabulous Revels SunFest to kick off the season, and more fun is to be had throughout the coming months!

Great is the sun, and wide he goes

Through empty heaven with repose;

And in the blue and glowing days

More thick than rain he showers his rays.

Heritage Montgomery hosts its annual Heritage Days celebration featuring Washington Revels!  The Washington Revels Heritage Voices, Jubilee Voices, and Roustabout String Band perform at three historic sites - the Sandy Spring Slave Museum, historic St. Paul Community Church in Poolesville, and Glen Echo Park - over this two-day, free-of charge, county-wide festival. They will be accompanied by Abraham Lincoln and his secretary, John Nicolay, as well as a former slave girl, Ann Maria Weems, who escaped to freedom on the Underground Railroad disguised as a coachboy.
