Community Sing in Silver Spring, July 31
At Dale Drive Neighborhood Park

Community SingWashington Revels will hold our annual Community Sing in Silver Spring from 5:00-8:00pm on Sunday, July 31 at the Dale Drive Neighborhood Park -- less than a half-mile down Dale Drive from our wonderful building!  Bring your picnic supper and blanket and join us for group singing (with leaders and songbooks provided) and a dance or two! Community sings are fun for the whole family -- younger children will even learn and perform a song or two of their own. No reservations are required -- just come and enjoy!

Revels Fall Workshops 

Playh Through the Ages...

Teaching artists guide youth in grades K-5 to discover the joys of seasonal celebrations, cultural heritage, and collaborative endeavors.

Civil War Documentary To Air on WETA
See and Hear Revels Performers

Heritage Montgomery's new documentary film, Life in a War Zone: Montgomery County during the Civil War, will be broadcast on public television! Washington Revels created the entire soundtrack and recorded a companion CD and Executive Director, Greg Lewis, narrates the film

 

Life in a War Zone: Montgomery County during the Civil War
The film will be shown on WETA, channel 26, on these dates:

Monday, August 22 at 10:00pm
Tuesday, August 23 at 4:00pm
Wednesday, August 24 at 3:00pm
Friday, August 26 at 10:00pm
Sunday, August 28 at 2:30pm

 

  

Washington Revels Companion CD

 

If you enjoyed the soundtrack for this documentary, continue the experience by purchasing your own copy of the companion Hard Times CD CoverWashington Revels recording, Hard Times Come Again No More: American Music of the Civil War Era. The CD, produced with generous support from Heritage Montgomery, features full length versions of segments heard on the film, plus additional material. Performers include Washington Revels Heritage Ensembles, Brass Quintet and String Band, along with guest artists Jacqueline Schwab, Bruce Molsky, Pete Cooper, The Federal City Brass Band, Douglas Jimerson, and Magpie.

Back-to-School Fair, August 27
Jubilee Voices Sing of History 
Jubilee Voices small group Don't know much about history? ...

Washington Revels Jubilee Voices will share African American heritage music at the Montgomery County Back-to-School fair. President Abraham Lincoln (portrayed by Scott Sedar) will also make an appearance.

There will be food and fun for folks of all ages -- so come to get back into the school groove.

Songs of Sea and Shore, August 31
At Friendship Heights Community Center
Join Maritime Sea SingingVoices for end-of-summer sea chanteys and much more. This program of nautical songs and rituals celebrates the men who manned the great sailing ships and the women who sustained the life of the seafaring communities ashore, highlighting the role of maritime music and tradition in life aboard ship and in the ports.
