Voices of the Civil War, May 18 at President Lincoln's Cottage |
A special visit from President Abraham Lincoln and his secretary, John Nicolay, highlights a program of American folk songs, spirituals, patriotic music, and readings. Great for all ages! Bring a blanket and picnic on the south lawn of the Cottage (Lawn chairs permitted / Alcohol prohibited).

Adult Chorus Auditions, May 20-21 The Christmas Revels & Jubilee Voices |
Auditions will be held on May 20 and 21 for The Christmas Revels 2011 production and for the 2011-2012 season of Jubilee Voices, an a capella ensemble performing African-American music of the Civil War-era.
Our 2011 Christmas Revels celebrates the extraordinary flowering of arts and culture in medieval Spain that accompanied a remarkable coexistence among Muslim, Jewish and Christian peoples. The music for this production will include early music and folk songs in Spanish, Ladino (the language of Sephardic Jews) and Arabic, as well as seasonal carols and traditional Revels favorites.

Washington Revels Heritage Voices, May 21 at Life in Civil War Alexandria |
Discover how Alexandria was transformed by the Civil War at this extensive living history event on the weekend of the 150th anniversary of Alexandria's occupation by Union troops. This kick-off to Alexandria's Civil War Commemoration features an opening ceremony, music by the Federal City Brass Band and Washington Revels, Robert E. Lee, a Civil War photographer, an army surgeon, a U.S. Military Railroad portrayal, the Victorian Dance Ensemble, Union and Confederate soldiers, African American civilian impressions, and more!
