Sunfest Montage

Summer is off to a hot start and SunFest was HOT!

An audience of 8,000 thoroughly enjoyed the line-up (literally), from the parade to performances by musicians and dancers from the D.C. area representing cultures from 12 countries on five continents. Washington Revels made a real splash with our procession, featuring our Water Mother and glorious Sun puppets, and a myriad of singers, musicians and dancers. We've already gotten requests from new artists and vendors for next year. And the media coverage was wonderful <read more about the festival>. We clearly achieved our goal of letting Silver Spring know that Revels has arrived!

And so, the summer season of festivities continues...
Independence Day Parade, July 4
121st Celebration in Takoma Park
Revels in the Takoma Park paradeCome join Washington Revels (or cheer from the curbs) as we march in the Takoma Park Independence Day Parade!

Our hardy band of Revelers -- adults, teens, and children -- will dress in white bedecked with multi-colored sashes, wreaths and flower garlands. We will be accompanied by the Green Man, Hobby Horse, bright banners and ribbon sticks, and more! If you would like to march and sing (or not, as you please) with us, see the details on our Web site and send us an email as indicated there.

Silver Spring Celebration & Ribbon Cutting
Sea SingingWashington Revels has been invited to join Montgomery County Executive Isiah Leggett for the Grand Opening of the Silver Spring Civic Building at Veterans Plaza. We will present "Songs of the Sea and Shore" at 6:00pm, offering a 30-minute set just prior to the official ribbon cutting. Following the ceremony, the public is invited to come inside the building and experience this wonderful new community space.

Community Sing in Silver Spring, July 11
At Dale Drive Neighborhood Park
Community SingWashington Revels will hold our annual Community Sing in Silver Spring from 5:00-8:00pm on Sunday, July 11 at the Dale Drive Neighborhood Park -- less than a half-mile down Dale Drive from our wonderful building!  Bring your picnic supper and blanket and join us for group singing (with leaders and songbooks provided) and a dance or two! Community sings are fun for the whole family -- younger children will even learn and perform a song or two of their own. No reservations are required -- just come and enjoy!

Bethesda "Big Train" Baseball, July 24
Take me out to the ballgame...
Bethesda Big TrainOnce again, Washington Revels has been invited to entertain the fans before and during a Bethesda Big Train baseball game at the wonderful Shirley Povich ballpark, near Montgomery Mall in Bethesda.  The game that evening is against Big Train's arch-rival Youse Orioles, and is the last game of the season (which decided the league championship last year).  Come out and sing along with Revels, and enjoy great baseball in a great setting!
