Thank You All for a Great "Open House"
|
Take
Joy! That was how
we
welcomed the first day of Spring at our wonderful Open House on March 21st. 300 people
joined us, perhaps a third of
them new to Revels, and a good time was had by all. It was wonderful to
hear so
many neighbors comment on how much Revels - the new building and the
entire Revels community - have added to Silver
Spring and their neighborhood. It was a
Revelized celebration, combining song, dance and housewarming rituals from different
cultures to bless the space. Children carried baskets of bread, honey,
and
salt, as well as a broom to sweep the threshold clean. We adapted a
Mayan
ritual with a rubber chicken (you had to be there!), culminating with
the
children racing to hide coins of the world in all corners of the
building to
bring us good fortune. We toasted our astute architects and, above all,
our
generous benefactor and landlord, Bill Ritchie. A variety of musicians
and Morris
dancers offered impromptu performances. The walls and halls were decked
with
photo collages and colorful props from years past. The costume and prop
shops were
on display in all their glory. As always,
thanks to the many volunteers
who helped organize, decorate, bake, serve, play and lead music, and
clean up. And so, a new era has begun!
