Barracks Row - Ready for
WinterCity Weekend
Looking for a place to shake off cabin fever this
weekend? Walk over to 8th
Street! Along Barracks Row, a three day WinterCity Weekend - Winter of Love Valentines
celebration is ON! Lead by New York Trapeze School's Saturday and Sunday
demonstrations at The Shakespeare Theatre Rehearsal Hall, the Row will be
jumping with activities!
Hard to believe, right? Neighborhood shopping throughout the region
has been dramatically slowed by 50+ inches of snow. But all neighborhoods are
not alike! Anyone who has seen Bethesda or Connecticut Ave on TV during the storms
will be in for a major surprise when they visit Eighth Street. On Barracks
Row we made the decision to claim our street back and keep our businesses open!
By 2 pm Thursday 8th
Street was free and clear - an easy walk from the Metro Plaza all the way to I
St.
The Capitol Hill BID worked aggressively Thursday morning
opening wide portions of 8th St sidewalks and today our blocks are snow free, dry
and open. Just one day after the storm shoppers on 8th Street could walk
side by side - not single file. Yesterday afternoon we watched families with
strollers and dogs easily walking from shop to shop in warm afternoon sunshine
seeking relief for multi-generational cabin fever.
This afternoon- Friday, February 12 - the first activities
of WinterCity Weekend begin at 12 noon as The Fridge (new gallery in the alley
behind Belga Cafe) launches art show "Empty Time"; across the street at Fusion
Grill Giovanni Art Group of Capitol Hill debuts their show at 3 pm and between
6 and 8 pm Long and Foster opens with Happy Hour Celebration and a show of
Nestor Hernandez photos. Stop in at Capitol Hill Bikes and wish them well at
their grand re-opening weekend beginning Friday on your way to La Rinascita
Theater's "The Fugitives" at Capitol Hill Arts Workshop. Of course, between art
and theater, our retailers and restaurants will be open and in fine form for a weekend
of celebrating.
Saturday, along with the Trapeze School demonstrations there
are twenty one different events and Sunday, another eight! The Events Schedule
is below and can also be viewed on our Website. Even Curbside Cupcakes is expected to make it to 8th
Street this weekend.
We all know and honor the Shop Local motto - but this
weekend, remember, party local, too! The Row is ready for you! - name of the product or service, price, terms of payment, time limit, any incentives or guarantees and of course, how to get it.
