Barracks Row Main Street is inaugurating a new concept for Winter 2010:  WinterCity Weekends!  There is plenty to do this winter weekend on Barracks Row, including art shows, performances, a CD release party, and January retail sales promotions.
 
This weekend is the kick off. A map of 8th Street and its environs shows what's going - where and when things are happening. Pick up a WinterCity Map at the Eastern Market Metro Station from one of our Barracks Row volunteers this weekend: Fri, 4 - 7 pm, Sat & Sun 11 am - 5 pm. Come to Barracks Row this weekend and see what we're cooking up in the cold.
 
Starting Friday afternoon there are several art shows including one at CHAW another at Long and Foster, as well as shows at The Fridge, Fusion Grill, and Homebody. On Saturday there are activities beginning as early as 9 am! The Corner Store will feature an art show plus The Singing Lizard will entertain kids; the art shows at CHAW, the Fridge and Fusion continue with an artist Q & A at CHAW to top it off. A tour of Barracks Row is scheduled for 2 pm, and from 3-5 a jazz group starts up at Corner Store. At Stitch DC a number of classes will be held - you can learn to make an A- line skirt at 12 noon (fee for class) or just Sit and Stitch from 3 to 5 with your own project. Saturday ends with a CD Party by Blue Brain at the Fridge (alley behind Belga) beginning at 8:30 pm.
 
On Sunday don't miss the jazz combo at Matchbox during brunch starting at 11 am. Then at noon settle down and knit a hat at Stitch DC (free instructions with purchase of materials) and by 2 pm join the Barracks Row Tour. Also check out the adorable cats for adoption at Chateau Animaux from Noon to 3 pm, and the cat artwork on display all month. End the day with the Magician at Turquoise Salon who appears at 3 pm and vanishes at 4 pm.
 
Plan to spend the weekend - Friday, Saturday, and Sunday, January 15, 16, 17 - on Historic Barracks Row, 8th Street SE, just south of Pennsylvania Ave and steps from Eastern Market Metro.
