Santa's Workshop on Barracks Row Reminder
This Saturday, December 12th, 2 - 4 PM
Barracks Row will be bustling this Saturday as Santa arrives on a firetruck! Bring the whole family--kids and adults alike can tell Santa their holiday wishes to Santa at the corner of 8th and G Streets (on the steps of the old bank building - now Oehme van Sweden).  The People's Church choir will be bringing their own touch of the holiday spirit and carolling on Barracks Row during the event--not to be missed!  Get photos taken with Santa by Stuart Hovell Photography (photos available for free downloading after the event at www.barracksrow.org). The workshop will also host a drop off spot for Toys for Tots.  Refreshments will be provided by Starbucks and Dunkin' Donuts. Winners of the Barracks Row Holiday Window Display contest will also be announced at approximately 3:30 PM.  This event is sponsored by Barracks Row Main Street.

Lower 8th Street Visioning Community Meetings Reminder:
Tuesday, Dec. 15, 8:30 am or 7 pm
The People's Church, 535 8th Street, SE

The Lower 8th Street SE Visioning Process Advisory Committee is coordinating a vision process with property owners and other community stakeholders along the Lower 8th Street, SE corridor. This process will be an attempt to gain consensus on a vision for the area and to address issues of height, density, mix of uses, parking and access, as well as what should be the character of a redesigned Virginia Avenue Park as an amenity or community benefit for the Capitol Riverfront neighborhood and Capitol Hill. If consensus can be reached on the vision, it could serve as the basis for asking the Office of Planning to develop a small area neighborhood plan that could then be used as justification for any agreed upon zoning or density changes.

The second set of 4 Community Meetings for the Lower 8th St, SE Visioning Process was held on November 17th at The Peoples' Church, 535 8th Street, SE. About 75 people attended the morning and evening meetings where they heard a recap of the October meeting, learned about the Existing Conditions/Allowed Development by Right and Future Form Determinants including the CSX Virginia Avenue Tunnel and Streetcar Plan, then discussed the Community Vision, summarizing needs and opportunities, before moving on to an interactive Q&A. The links to minutes for this and the October meeting, as well as the full presentations  can be found at www.lower8th.blogspot.com, or by clicking the link below.

Please post any comments on the blog site or email us at lower8thvision@gmail.com. Your questions, concerns and suggestions will be reviewed by the Advisory Group.

Please stay tuned for an upcoming post that outlines our agenda for the next set of Community-wide Input Meetings scheduled for December 15, 2009. The next meeting will focus on best practice examples and build-out scenarios. For more information visit:Lower 8th Vision Blog Site.
