Capitol Hill's Annual Holiday Tree Lighting Dec. 3rd Reminder
Come join the revelry with Councilmember Tommy Wells tomorrow Thursday December 3rd from 5:30 - 6:30 PM at the Eastern Market Metro Plaza  located at 8th and Pennsylvania Ave, SE. Kathy Didden will light the tree in honor of her late husband, George Didden III, for his many contributions to the Hill. Event presented by the Capitol Hill Business Improvement District.

Santa's Workshop on Barracks Row December 12th, 2 - 4 PM
Bring the whole family for this fun annual event! Get photos taken with Santa by Stuart Hovell Photography (photos available for free downloading after the event at www.barracksrow.org). The workshop will also host a drop off spot forToys for Tots.  This event is sponsored by Barracks Row Main Street.

  Shakespeare Theatre to Host Blood Drive on Barracks Row Mon. Dec. 7th
The Shakespeare Theatre Rehearsal Hall  is hosting a Blood Drive next Monday December 7th at 507 8th St. SE starting at 3 pm and ending at 5 pm. Last donors must sign in by 4:45.

The Second Annual "Magic & Miracles at The Mansion" -- a benefit for Ready, Willing & Working , December 17th, 7 - 10 p.m. -- where we celebrate the Magic of Opportunity and the Miracle of the Human Spirit for the second year, at The Mansion on O Street (2020 O Street, NW, Washington, DC).

The Mansion on O Street is a wonder to behold at holiday time. Come here to get into the holiday spirit! Not only will it be an unforgettable evening, but you'll be helping to provide opportunities for individuals who so desperately want to work, to lift themselves out of poverty, to escape destructive cycles and to be included in mainstream society. The team works with the Capitol Hill Business Improvement District keeping our streets clean and safe.

  Barracks Row Supplemental Clean Team Services to Continue in 2010
 Supplemental Clean Team Weekend Services on Barracks Row will continue in 2010. The team works 3 - 11 PM, Friday - Sunday, 8th Street's busiest time. 2009 was the first year of the program, and fortunately the funding will continue for at least another year.  Barracks Row Main Street works with the Ready Willing & Working team and the Capitol Hill Business Improvement District in managing this program to enhance the clean and safe feeling of the street during busy night-time hours. Clean team weekend services are funded by Barracks Row Main Street through a grant from the Dept. of Public Works and the Dept. of Small and Local Business Development.
December Events at The Fridge, Barracks Row's Newest Gallery Space
Have you heard about Capitol Hill's new art and performance space on Barracks Row? Located in the rear alley behind Shakespeare Theatre's admin building at 516 8th Street, SE, The Fridge hosts a variety of art shows and performances. The buildings in the alley have been completely remodeled by the owner, Alex Goldstein, creating an interesting and lively space. Opened in September,  The Fridge DC is also an art classroom that offers scholarships for children of low-income DC area residents.

This month visit the art exhibition by Scot Lefavor opening Dec. 3rd, 8 - 11 PM.  The artist will also host a talk on Sunday Dec. 6th from 3 - 4 PM. 

Description: Scot Lefavor's new body of work-presented in his first solo exhibition in Washington DC: "YO, YOU HEAR BOUT THAT ART SHOW AT THE FRIDGE?"-is in the artist's words "disjointed notes on relationships, a social commentary." Made up of 22 new works of acrylic and enamel on panel, including one large panel created onsite at the gallery.
