Barracks Row Main Street's Facade Improvement Program
to Continue in FY '10

Good News! We're proud to announce that our DHCD-funded Façade Improvement Program has been so successful that we've received additional funding for the coming Fiscal Year. After successfully completing repairs, painting, new windows and awnings, our grant funders have agreed to assist with future work on commercial properties south of G Street SE and near 8th Street SE.

Recent participants have included: Homebody- your local home accessories and furniture store; All Africa- a media and public relations organization, Dogma- grooming and doggie daycare; Fuller's Barber Shop; and Navy Yard Valet, a local tailor, dry cleaner and shoe repair.  Our other façade grant programs have restored Subway's brick façade, the windows at Pawticulars, and signs at GroovyLand.

For more information, or to see if you qualify for our Façade Improvement Program, please contact Tom Litke at the Main Street Office at (202) 544-3188. Let's Keep It Going!

Barracks Row Main Street Awarded DDOT Transportation Enhancement Grant Funding in FY '10 for Mural Stabilization
Even More Good News!  District residents will soon see some unique improvements in the city's public space.  The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) yesterday announced ten projects selected to receive FY10 funding through their Transportation Enhancement Program and Barracks Row made the cut!  BRMS has been awarded a grant to conserve a few of our historic murals along Barracks Row.  This grant will improve the pedestrian experience of the street, while connecting our visitors to the history of the street.  As you may know, some of our existing murals are incorporated into the history walking tours given regularly along Barracks Row, including Smithsonian Food & History Tours which start this weekend on Nov. 1st (see below for more info).  To see the listing of all the projects that were selected, go to DDOT's Website.
