In 2007 a special Task Force,
consisting of representatives from many Capitol Hill organizations, was
established to initiate and subsequently guide an architectural design study to
explore alternatives to improve the Eastern
Market Metro
Plaza and Park, as well
as to better integrate Barracks Row and Eastern Market.
Barracks Row Main Street's Task Force retained renowned
architect Amy Weinstein, president of Weinstein Associates Architects, and her
design team -- the firm of Oehme van Sweden, prominent landscape architects,
and Gorove Slade, an experienced DC traffic engineering firm. The Task Force invited the Capitol Hill community
to a meeting at St. Peter's Church on July 1st, at which three
different designs alternatives for the Plaza were presented by Ms. Weinstein. Following the presentation, the Task Force
and its consultants heard comments from the audience about the designs and responded
to questions. The full presentation of the three designs can be viewed on the
website, www.capitolhilltownsquare.org.
The Task Force is now seeking
further community input during a 45-day public comment period. Submit
your questions or comments to the website, www.capitolhilltownsquare.org. All submissions will be circulated to all
Task Force members. The 45-day comment period began on July 1st and will
continue through Monday, August 17th. |
