Greetings from Barracks Row Main Street!
 
Second Saturday is this Saturday, June 13th on Barracks Row.  Stop by participating retailers who will be open extended hours.  Retailers host wine and light hors d'oeuvres receptions, as well as special events.  This month Chateau Animaux is hosting artist Eric Ginsburg, a local artist who specializes in pet paintings.  More information for this event and participating retailers is listed below. 

Cultural Tourism of DC's Walking Town DC offered two tours through Historic Capitol Hill and Barracks Row on Saturday May 30th and Sunday May 31st. Barracks Row Main Street co-hosted this event, "If This Street Could Talk," a tour highlighting the architecture of historic buildings on the Hill and their cultural relevance. The tour was a great success with nearly 100 attendees total.  Barracks Row extends its thanks to Cultural Tourism for organizing this event.  Barracks Row would also like to thank its volunteers who guided the tours. 

Artomatic continues to draw art lovers from all over the area this spring.  This exciting event hosts a mecca of artists and their work.  Artomatic will continue through July 5th.  The show is at 55 M Street, SE--see below for more info and a link to their website. 

The US Marine Corps Parade Season also continues through the summer.  Make your reservations now!  See below for more info.

Stop by Barracks Row on your way to or from the Nationals games--E-Cruzers, sponsored by Lola's, Molly Malone's, and Ugly Mug, carry customers from Barracks Row to and from the games.  If you missed today's game at 4:30, you can catch the Nats at home again next week on June 19th, 20th, and 21st.  Visit washinton.nationals.mlb.com for a complete schedule.

Artomatic 2009

Held regularly since 1999, Artomatic is the Washington, D.C., area's one-of-a-kind multimedia event, involving hundreds of regional artists, performers and volunteers. The free event is an arts extravaganza, featuring paintings, sculpture, photography, music, theater, poetry, dance and workshops.

Artomatic is located at 55 M Street SE.
Times for the event: Fri - Sat, Noon to 1AM, Sun, Wed, Thurs, Noon - 10pm.

Marine Corps Barracks Parade Season
Fridays: May 8th - August 28th

A one hour and fifteen minute performance of music and precision marching, the Evening Parade features "The President's Own" United States Marine Band, "The Commandant's Own" The United States Marine Drum and Bugle Corps, the Marine Corps Color Guard, the Marine Corps Silent Drill Platoon, Ceremonial Marchers, and LCpl. Chesty XIII, the official mascot of Marine Barracks Washington.

The ceremony starts at 8:45 p.m., beginning with a concert by the United States Marine Band. The Evening Parade, held every Friday evening during the summer, has become a universal symbol of the professionalism, discipline, and Esprit de Corps of the United States Marines.


Evening of the Parade Information
Guests with reservations are admitted beginning at 7:15 p.m. and should arrive no later than 8 p.m. Guests arriving after 8 p.m. are not guaranteed their reserved seating. There is no charge for admission. At the time the reservation is confirmed, a numbered admission gate is assigned to which guests should report on the evening of the parade. At 8:15 p.m., guests without reservations who are waiting outside the Main Gate of the Barracks are offered unclaimed seats. As a security precaution, all guests entering the Barracks pass through magnetic detection devices. No weapons of any kind, including knives, are allowed inside the Barracks. No food or beverages are allowed except water and baby food/bottles.

Eastern Market Metro Plaza Community Meeting
Save the Date--July 1st

There will be a community meeting on July 1st starting at 7 PM to review the three final design options for the redevelopment of the Eastern Market Plaza.  Amy Weinstein, architect, and her team will present the projects at the meeting.  Mark your calendars.  The location is to be determined, and will be announced soon--it will be on Capitol Hill.  We look forward to the community's feedback at this important presentation.

Oktoberfest Needs Volunteers!
Calling all volunteers!

With Oktoberfest fast approaching, Barracks Row Main Street needs volunteers to help acquire signatures from residents in the area around 8th Street SE for permission to close the street for the event on September 26.  We have already started, as getting the required signatures (90%) is a large undertaking.

We would like to get volunteers to help on Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday evenings, 6pm-8pm & Saturdays and Sundays 10am-Noon or Noon-2pm, or any part of those time slots.  Please let us know if you are willing to help, and which dates and times work for you.  Also, if you know of someone who might be willing to help, please forward the info to them.  Please call the office, or email us,  to sign up to help.  Contact info is below.
 Capitol Hill Circulator
Take the Circulator to and from Union Station, Eastern Market, Barracks Row, Navy Yard Museum, M Street, Capitol Riverfront & the Nationals Stadium

The Circulator bus, a convenient and fast public transportation system around DC, runs approximately every ten minutes around Capitol Hill until 7pm on Weekdays, and until midnight on Nationals home game days.

Take the Circulator to Artomatic and Nationals games.  Don't forget to stop on Barracks Row for a unique dining and shopping experience!
