Lucky 3-Leaf Clovers

4-leaf clover
There's an enormous, velvety green patch of clover at the end of the trail where I often walk in the canyon behind my home.  It always reminds me of a fascinating and heartwarming story told by one of the great teachers in my life about how, while mourning the loss of her mother, she sat in her backyard and looked down to find several four-leaf clovers which her mother had loved.  Thinking at first it was too coincidental to be a true sign from her mother, she just saved them and moved on.  But she found herself returning to the spot every day for the next few weeks and finding hundreds of four-leaf clovers which she now keeps in a book as an overflowing reminder of miracles in our lives and the power of love.

And so I just can't help myself!  I look and I look and I look... and I NEVER find even one measly four-leaf clover!  And then last week, she shared four rules of life:

Show up.
Pay attention.
Tell the truth.
Let go.

Let go.  Oh, yeah.  Let go of outcomes.  Let go of what's supposed to happen.  Allow.  Embrace what is.  Make room for possibility:  For your own special ending.  For your own miracles... not someone else's.  It's the "letting go" part that is hardest for me to remember.

So this week in March, where we celebrate St. Patrick's Day and hope a little "luck 'o the Irish" rubs off on us... I'll enjoy and marvel at the THOUSANDS of stunningly 3-leaf clovers which greet me on every walk.  I'll not miss their perfect beauty, or their Irish luck, looking for something else.

What is a better return on your investment:?  You running into each operatory in your "spare" time to take intra-oral photos on each patient?  Or having 4 team members taking those photos for you?

Hygienist:  Would you LOVE to keep doing the same old routing "cleaning" on EVERY patient?  Or would you like to learn new techniques to give your patient an eye-opening experinece and have them value you as a high-level dental professional?

So, What IS Hygiene Co-Diagnosis, Anyway?!

I let go of any expectations from someone else's "story" and make room for my own miracles, coincidences, and sweet surprises.  I celebrate this week, with childish enthusiasm, all my good luck and good fortune.
