Many Thanks to Kate Gemeiner for sponsoring our Oneg Shabbat at Friday's service in honor of her 82nd birthday!  We appreciate and celebrate Kate!

In Need of a Few Good Volunteers

Our Oneg Shabbat Committee is also in need of a few volunteers to help with cleanup at the conclusion of our Shabbat services.  Please contact the TAO office if you have some time to spare after our beautiful services and Oneg Shabbats.  We appreciate all of our member volunteers

"Balancing Breathing"

With Rabbi Shoni & Dr Lisa

Saturday, June 16

Rabbi Marc personally invites and encourages all members: older ones, newer members and first-timers to learn one-on-one with Rabbi Shoni Labowitz and Dr. Lisa Sirota-Weiner in this revealing discussion and interactive experience as our "Alchemy of Health" Balancing Life Workshop Series continues with "Balancing Breathing".  The breath is your guide.  It is the Divine entrance to your inner truth and the beginning of all health.  As you breathe, so you live.

This discussion will take place at the home of Rabbi Shoni Labowitz from 1 - 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 16th.  Remember to bring a journal, an open heart and clear mind with you.  To Reserve call the TAO office at 954-888-1408.

For Members Only    Open to the first 20 registrants.

From Our President:

The Tribute to Rabbis Shoni & Phillip

May 5th, 2012

If you attended last Saturday night's gala celebrating our very own Rabbis Shoni and Phillip, you will never think of Ikea and Paula Dean the same again!  The fun evening was a celebration of life, love and laughter that we will remember for years to come.

Laughing Matterz served up great food and belly laughs with their outrageous show.  Our own Rabbi Marc and his brother Arik sang a beautiful Shlomo Carlebach tribute to their parents that had the room filled with that special kind of love between parents and children.  It was a tender moment we were blessed to share.

I had the privilege of being in charge of the video for the event.  On the day of the filming, both R Shoni and R Phillip were in rare moods and they laughed and kibbutzed through much of the interview, interjecting comments followed by "Don't use that!" or "Cut that part out!"  Yet peppered throughout were moments of cherished memories, sweet stories and wisdom that offered a glimpse into the hearts and souls of our founding rabbis.  My job was easy...  all I had to do was to string together those moments.  What a fun thing to do!  By all accounts, it was a huge success and, I trust, will serve as a lasting tribute of the love our community has for these two wonderful rabbis.

Once again, there was a huge effort on the part of many people to make this event a success.  Right at the top I want to point out the tireless work of our "part time" administrator, Renee Greene.  Her knowledge, intelligence, good nature, perseverance and incredible memory are the backbone of every TAO event.  She consistently provides unerring advice and her instincts are flawless.  Thank you Renee for bringing your gifts to us.  We deeply appreciate you.

And right alongside is Dee Sacks.  Officially our Office Manager, unofficially our holy, hardworking volunteer extraordinaire - Dee is the heart of TAO administration.  She knows our members.  She knows our rabbis.  She just knows things. She is like a computer that has no back-up!  Thank you Dee for all you do.  We deeply appreciate you.

Pam Kelner chaired the event and was key in organizing phone trees and auction items.  This was Pam's first TAO fund-raiser and I think she now knows all the joy associated with putting on an event like this.  Thank you Pam for being there for us and for your dedication and hard work.  We all appreciated your contribution to the success of the evening.

Other volunteers like Angela Gershenwald, Sue Reisman, Marcia Peschitz, Trudi DeGrazia, Richard Grove, Eileen Grove, Sandy King, Kate Gemeiner, Shirley Shelpman, Maria Daszkal, Ellen Kushner, Elyn Zerfas, Jenae Rubin, Rochelle & Charles Tischler, Ethelind Wiener ( to whom we apologize for omitting from our telephone committee listing in the journal), Keith Kander, Michael Fish (thank you for the picture-taking!), Rebecca Negrin, Karen Rosenfeld, Sylvia Greene, Cousin Sharon...if I have forgotten you, I apologize in advance.  I'm writing from memory!  Thank you to all of you.  Really, really - we could not have done this without each of you.

When I told my friend I was writing this article for the newsletter, she said, "That's easy.  It was fun.  Oh, and it was so much fun!  And you could always say, 'It was fun!' "  That said, I will also say this...

"Thank you Rabbi Shoni and Rabbi Phillip for allowing us in, for being who you are, for all that you have given to this community and to the world.  And thank you for allowing us to have fun with you.  Happy 65th Birthday.  Happy 75th Birthday.  Happy Anniversary.  You rock!"

Anne Goldberg
President, TAO

626 S. Miami Avenue, Miami, FL 33130

Featuring our own

Rabbis Shoni & Marc

Join us as we gather on Sunday, May 27th for the purpose of PEACE.  It will take place on Shavuot.  This will be a magnificent opportunity for us to see the meaning of Shma Yisrael... Echad.  When we hear the insight and wisdom of other faiths we can see how we all gather around a similar Maypole and how we all share a unified oneness. This is learning, this is Torah and this is oneness. Let's spend Shavuot in this unique and lofty manner.

Leaders and clerics of different faiths and communities unite to create new possibilities for love, peace & success.

Guest Speakers ~Powerful Performances ~Community Building Activities

The evening will conclude with a candle lighting vigil.

We are too faithful to be afraid and too united to be defeated. Together in ONENESS we are the genesis of new possibilities for success.

TAO (Temple Adath Or) is the South Florida Center for Jewish Renewal. We are a warm expression of joyful Judaism that brings Judaism to the 21st Century.

Jewish Renewal is about breathing life and meaning into Judaism. It is a return to the mystic roots of Abraham. It teaches that when we touch the Divine within and allow That to shine through us, we achieve a life of balance, harmony and loving kindness. In its essence, Renewal helps us to access the God within.

TAO services are filled with joy as we sing our way through Shabbat. Prayer, meditation and movement are always a part of everything we do.

Join us the first and third Friday of each month. Whether you are Jewish, non-Jewish or want to feel Jewish again, you will be touched by the depth, joy and connection you will feel at our Services.

TAO's Adopted Family

Through our support of the Touch A Heart Foundation, TAO has adopted a family whom we will try to offer visits and support during the coming year.

Our "adopted" family consists of a 63 year old grandma with custody of two grandsons, a 10 and 11 year old. Grandma has MS, and on a good day uses a cane. More often she requires a walker or wheelchair. Her greatest fear is losing her home which is the only home the boys have ever known and handicap accessible for her. Their only income at this time is Social Security.

As the holidays draw near, if you would like to make a donation towards food or holiday gifts for our adopted family, please contact the TAO office at 954-888-1408.

We plan to visit our family throughout the holidays and throughout the year. If you are interested in being a part of one of these visits, please let Renee know at 954-888-1408 or by email at [email protected] This is a wonderful mitzvah project and we hope each of you can participate in this mitzvah in some small or large way.

We wish to thank our wonderful Rabbis - Marc, Shoni and Phillip as we return to New York for the summer.  Every year as we leave, it becomes more difficult because you are our community, our family, our dearest friends.

We wish you all a happy and healthy summer until we return to greet you all personally.  The love and concern we receive from all of you touches our hearts deeply.  Each year we leave later and return earlier.

If anyone visits New York, please give us a call.  We'd love to see you.  Until we meet --- we love you and we wish you well.

Undergoing Chemo?
There is a cleaning service that provides FREE housecleaning - once a month for four months - for women in treatment. Simply sign up and ask her doctor to fax a note confirming the treatment.

Cleaning for a Reason contacts a participating maid service in her zip code. Be a blessing to someone and pass this information along.

Help members who
need rides
Sometimes, members need rides to the doctor or to Services. If you're willing to help, we'd like to keep a list of people to call. Please call or email us if you're willing to help.

Sponsor an Oneg
Without your help, this delightful finale of our Shabbos gatherings will change its shape. We are told that it is a wise practice to contribute to a worthy charity before praying. What better time than sponsoring an Oneg. Call the office to reserve your Oneg: 954-888-1408.

Transportation As One (TAO)

CarpoolPeople from Miami to Aventura to Boca to Palm Beach want to attend TAO Services and Wisdom Class and are unable or uncomfortable driving. If you will take someone with you, please email us, and we'll update the list to help make it easy for everyone to attend and participate in our events.

Plus, it's the green thing to do! Carpooling conserves gas and offers the opportunity to enjoy your TAO friends at the same time. Click here for list of people offering rides.

Galia & Ocean Funds

In the spirit of Tzedakah, Paulina and Rabbi Marc set up two funds at TAO - a Galia fund and an Ocean fund. A portion of these funds is used to send toys and other needed items to Jewish and non-Jewish organizations that serve children, including Jafco.

When you share your sweetness to celebrate Galia's birthday (December 6) and Ocean's birthday (June 28) and other occasions, please donate to TAO instead of generously offering toys, clothing and other gifts. In this way, children will benefit from your sweet generosity.

Paulina and Rabbi Marc will be informed that you gifted their children and performed an act of Tzedakah in their honor.

Both Paulina and Rabbi Marc appreciate the health, toys and love their children have and want to give others the opportunity to share as well. To donate, Donate to Galia or Ocean fund for this tax deductible gift.
