August 1, 2011E-Update
Souderton Telford Main Streets

Hello Reader,

This summer has flown by. Since summer is prime grant season, I have been busy writing and closing out grants.

I also am taking an online class on integrating technology in the nonprofit world. Apparently, I am doing this email all wrong...too long, too many different topics, too many different organizations covered.

Would you please take this short survey and let me know if YOU want me to change it?

Of course, 47% of the people receiving this email, open it. The average open rate for nonprofits is 9%. That's rather respectable.

August is very busy:

We are heading into the Univest Grand Prix and we have lots of ways for you to get involved.

The Indian Valley Farmers' Market has the most amazing selection of vendors every Saturday.

We are actually working on the Souderton Holiday Parade material. The online registration will open on Sept. 1.

Let's tear into the piles of information in my inbox and see what else is happening over the next couple of weeks.

Market Is Thriving

What You need to Know?
IVFM logo
The Indian Valley Farmers' Market  is going full tilt.

The Market is open for business from 8:30 am until 12:30 pm. Rain or shine. Our farmers will always be there but some of our other vendors don't do well in the rain.

The vendors fall into three categories:
Of course, we always try to jazz things up a bit with unusual events,

The best part of theIndian Valley Farmers' Market is seeing all the familiar faces of vendors, friends, neighbors and family while you stock up on fresh, locally grown food!

Keep track of who will be at the market and how your group can participate by follow our website or our Facebook page.  Find us on Facebook

See you at the Market

Add Your Two-cents
Toll Booth Sen. Bob Mench, by way of the Indian Valley Chamber, sent out this opportunity.

The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission is conducting an online survey to gather public opinion on the possibility of ending cash payments for tolling fees.

As part of its study, the commission is asking motorists to complete an online surveyThe survey will be available until August 22.

It's Going to Be A Rockin' Good Time

Business is Rockin' & Rollin' In the Indian Valley
rock and roll The annual Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce Expo is coming up rapidly.  You know this is the hottest ticket in town.

The booth space at the Indian Valley Country Club goes quickly so sign up now at the Chamber's website for this October 6 event.

Our friends at the Chamber know that having a 3-dimensional, four-color, interactive booth at the Expo alone is not enough.  You and your staff need to be prepared to make lasting connections.

They have an Expo 101 Seminar on Wednesday August 24 from 4pm to 5 pm at Generations of Indian Valley to help you maximize your return on your booth.  Mail, call, fax, or email the Chamber Office for details and to register.

Univest Grand Prix  2011

So Many Ways to Participate!
UGP 2011

Let's see if we can point you in the right direction here.

The Univest Grand Prix is arriving in town on Saturday, September 17.

We have dedicated a portion of the Main Streets website to information about the Grand Prix for residents, business owners and visitors.

You can find out a wealth information that should help you maximize the day's fun and profit.

The new course map for the in-town race. We will post the Cyclosportif when it is finalized. The Cyclosportif, the recreational race that covers the surrounding area has undergone a major overhaul.

Information on how to sign up for a SMS text feed for your smart phone. Stay abreast of the day's happenings in real time, plus tell the world what your business is doing to celebrate. Ice cold drinks, anyone?

The sign-up paperwork to have a booth at the Univest plaza. No one can get to your business? Come to the crowds and entice them back to your business after the race.

How to participate as a Course Marshal and be in front of the crowds to see the excitement.

A cheat sheet filled with race terms so you can sound like you know what is going on! I love this.

How to host a racer or a team. This is one of the features that makes this race special on the international circuit. The riders  stay in a real homes rather than an impersonal hotel. Your family will have an insider's view of the race and someone special to cheer for.

Finally, make sure you tune into the Souderton Telford Main Streets website on race day.

We will hijack our own website and turn it into Media Central that day. You will be able to follow audio from WNPV 1440 AM, the SMS texting service, the Souderton Telford Main Streets Facebook feed and, if they are broadcasting it live, you will be able to see the race on WFMZ's web feed

They have something going on in Doylestown the next day, but we are the Souderton Telford Main Streets. We don't worry about Doylestown.

Party Time!

Can you help us?
media types I was asked to find a few people who have decided to add a party to their UGP experience this year.

Any business who has found a cool way to benefit from all the visitors should also contact the STMS office.

The gentleman in charge of floating ideas to the regional media would like to do a couple of stories and to pitch story ideas set in the Boroughs.

I will pass along the information and the contacts to the PR person. Just call the STMS office at 215-723-6627 or email me
Can You Help?

We need help for an ongoing project
We try to keep event calendars in the local, regional and state level posted with community events from Souderton and Telford

Without an assistant at the office, I cannot keep up with this task.  We are looking for a volunteer who will take on this task for us.

Here's an article explaining more about what we need. Can you help us?
Paying It Forward

At the IV Boys and Girls Club
food drive You know the local business community was very involved in helping to build the Indian Valley Boys and Girls Club

If you spend any time talking to kids who belong there, you quickly learn what a positive force this organization has been in their lives.

Here's a photo of how the Indian Valley Boys and Girls Club (and the North Penn Boys and Girls Club) have made a substantial contribution back to our local community.

They collected over 1300 items for the food pantry at Keystone Opportunity Center and several other pantries in our area. It makes the investment in building this wonderful facility so worthwhile.

Thanks to Matt Godshall for sharing his photos and his pride in the kids.

By the way, they are still accepting donated items for their big fund-raising auction!

If you plan to be in town for the race, you can join the race excitement with a text dialogue.

We tested it  last year and it was a blast.

You point your smart phone at the QR to the left and take an image.  You then put in your name and cell phone number. that's it.

On Race Day, you will get a steady stream of texts from event coordinators, local businesses, residents, fans and anyone else who signs up.  Add your comments and we are off to a busy day of everyone talking about the day's excitement.

You can also click here and go sign up. All posts will be monitored to keep this a family-friendly service.  Standard SMS/Data Rates Apply.

You Do Not Want to Miss
aveda makeup brushes
The ladies over at Ruth and Company are doing an exemplary job of posting on Facebook.

Here's something I picked up from there. Then Ruth gave me a small flyer when I stopped by. She is using different media to get her message out in an inexpensive but personal way.

Today, Friday, August 19, they will have Aveda makeup artist, Fawn, here for an event from 1 pm to 8 pm. Call 215-799-0234 or email the store for an appointment and details.
Something new and "Local"

Something to tickle your tongue
Lunch at the Local
The Souderton Train Station is the home to a new restaurant called the Local.  I swiped a recent photo from their Facebook post of a daily special.

"Sweet Thai Chicken Salad: Local chicken grilled and poached in sweet chili sauce over spring mix with roasted peaches, roasted almonds, and feta; garnished with sweet curry dusted tortilla tangles and blood orange Balsamic Reduction!"

That's just a daily special.  You need to check out their menu and plan to stop by. They are open for breakfast and lunch all week and for dinner on Fridays and Saturdays.

The knowledgeable staff will tell you all about the philosophy and why is is so aptly named.
