Dear Colleagues,

spring flowers

Spring is definitely here.

Everyone is coming out of hibernation and sending us the good news about events, fundraisers, new businesses and opportunities that you won't want to miss.

Pull up your calendar and start loading it up with all the good stuff below. This email is going to be a long one but full of substance. Enjoy.

Techsoup for Non Profits

Techsoup

Techsoup is an organization that provides non profit organizations with a wealth of support for their IT needs.

From incredible prices on software to white papers on different technical topics, this is a resource that every nonprofit in the area should be using.

They are hosting an online webinar on Friday, April 8 from 10-11 am Pacific Time to explain how faith based and secular organizations can register at Techsoup. Your organization can receive donated software, hardware and services and access a variety of resources. Register now, space is limited.

Happy Anniversary, Chrysalis Hair Design!

Chrysalis annivesary

Kim Staropoli and Kevin Kriebel of Chrysalis Hair Design, 114 N. Main Street in Souderton, celebrate the salon's first anniversary April 6th.

As a thank you to clients and friends, Chrysalis will have cake and refreshments in the salon April 5-9.

Stop by, say hello and wish them a Happy 1st Anniversary (and many more)!

Welcome, Lucas Pizza

Lucas pizza

Just when you think, we don't need another Pizza Shop in the boroughs, we get Luca's Pizza in Telford. You'll change your mind quickly.

Antonio is a familiar face to local pizza connoisseurs.

He previously had Sophie's Pizza.  The name stayed with the building when he moved to Telford but not his menu.

Antonio Loreto has transformed the former Telford Vet Building into a delightful new treasure in our towns. He has a full menu of authentic Italian selections from pizza and calzones to sandwiches and full meals. His dining room is bright and comfortable.

I look forward to holding meeting in his over-sized booths that hold 12 people. Stop by and welcome Antonio and Luca's Pizza to Telford.

The Statewide Conference on Heritage will be held May 17-19, 2011 at the Commonwealth Keystone Building in Harrisburg, PA.

The joint conference will feature workshops, sessions and speakers from the historic preservation, archaeological, heritage tourism, transportation, legislative, and planning communities, including a number of nationally known speakers and subjects of state, regional and national importance.

They have a session track for preserving Sacred Spaces. Our two communities are full of historic churches designed and built by well-known architects. This should be a good place to learn about resources for preserving these gems for future generations of congregations. Learn more at the website.

Preservation Trades Workshop in Lancaster

Donovan Rypkema

If you are into restoring historic buildings, professionally or as a labor of love, you don't want to miss this event in Lancaster this summer.

With the theme, Hands on Heritage: Trades, Knowledge, Community, IPTW 2011 will include a keynote address by Donovan Rypkema, an internationally known preservation consultant, writer and lecturer who will address the important contribution to a local economy provided by the preservation trades, and also the role of historic preservation in comprehensive sustainable development.

I have taken several classes over the years with Donovan and I go hear him speak whenever I can. He is the leader in the commonsense approach to historic preservation. Check out his online speeches. ~Pam Coleman

Food for Thought about Sales Tax

online shopping

At several of the meetings and events that I have attended recently, the discussion has been about the loss of sales taxes from online purchases.

Here are some statistics that really bring home the argument for making Amazon pay sales tax.

  • Spend $100 locally, $62 stays right in our community
  • Spend that same $100 in a national chain, only $42 stays in our community
  • Spend that same $100 on-line, $0 is returned to our community

I love to save money just like everyone else, but these numbers make you think about the real value and impact of your shopping dollar.
