Dear Colleague,
Happy New Year
Happy New Year's.

2011is already shaping up to be a year of big projects. Articles below will update you on the Souderton Historic District and the Arcadia book featuring Souderton.

Our volunteers are buzzing about the fund-raising dinner at Caruso's on January 26. The silent auction items are rolling and people are assembling groups of friends and family to attend. It is shaping up to be a memorable evening of fun and laughter. Details below.

On a final note, Rep. Bob Godshall once again came through for Souderton. This time he finagled a coveted RACP grant for  $1 million for the renovation of the Souderton Train Station.

Souderton Borough Council passed a resolution to officially apply for the grant on Monday night and Borough manager, Mike Coll, has less than two weeks to assemble the application.

We will use the $500,000 appropriation that Congressman  Charlie Dent obtained for the project as the match.

It is truly amazing what can be accomplished when all the elected leaders support the common vision for community.

The return of passenger service to our rail line is another quiet project that is picking up momentum. That could happen within the next 5 years.

The Broad Theater Project is also picking up momentum. As soon as we have definite news to share, you will see it here, or on our Facebook page or on our website.

It is an exciting time to live and work in Souderton and Telford!

This is a wonderful opportunity to support our mission to revitalize our downtowns while enjoying a great meal with lively company.
And So The Thank Yous Begin....
thank you

After only about a week of energetic footwork, our volunteers have rounded up some really great silent auction items.

We will be able to put together two collections of breakfast and/or lunch gift certificates to keep someone well fed for at least a week. Apple Orchard Cafe, Main Street Java, Souderton Family Restaurant, and Tilly Mint's Tea Room have all provided gift certificates.

The Corner Store at the Souderton Mennonite Home is providing two gift baskets. Chrysalis Hair Design is providing a basket of hair products. Heartwarming Treasures in Souderton is providing something and so is Yours, Mine,Ours Consignment in Telford.

Ellie Landis will be talking to more businesses in Telford and Nancy Owen has been talking to businesses in Souderton. They have also been selling tickets to the dinner while they are out and about.

Nancy just stopped in to report that Rich D'Amico at Consign for Design is providing cool prizes! They are as unique as his shop. The first is a wooden salad bowl on a stand. (This is the only way to make a real Caesar Salad!) The other is a world globe and atlas set.

A simple thank you does not seem to be enough as these great friends and colleagues help us make this dinner a memorable and profitable evening!
We are Publishing a Book and You can Help!
Arcadia Logo
A group of STMS volunteers have come together to work on an Arcadia book about Souderton. These are the sepia colored paperback books filled with photos and captions about a community.

As soon as we have a work schedule in place, I will post it on the website. In the mean time, please look through your old photos for any pre-1969 photos that showcase life in the two boroughs. We will want to scan them and take down the story and who is in the photo, if possible.

The first book is about Souderton and if we find enough photos, we will also do a Telford book. Here's the article on our website with more details.
Stress!?!  What Stress?
work stress Guidance for Growing is hosting another of their amazing workshops filled with information that we should want for our lives. This workshop's topic is stress management.

Mikaela Martin is on the Indian Valley Live radio show almost as regularly as I am. She is a wealth of good common sense about living a healthy lifestyle. She takes the guilt out and explains it in terms that leaves us saying, "I can do that!"

Learn more about their January workshop at our website. Then make a reservation to attend!

Souderton Historic District Update
Souderton sign
Although we have not received final word from the National Park Service, we are anticipating notification any day now. They do not seem to be caught up on their website updates since the holidays.

In the meantime, I have posted all the paperwork and maps for the nomination of the Souderton Historic District on our website.

It is broken into smaller sections but they are still rather large files. Fortunately, it is also interesting reading. These are very technical documents but Shelby Splain did a great job of storytelling within the confines of the nomination form. She is the specialist who researched, wrote and assembled the nomination application.
