Pop Goes the Holiday

Popcorn- The Universal Gift
popcornOn a recent broadcast at Indian Valley Live, we were talking about why shopping local makes a difference. I mentioned that a tin of popcorn is a great gift for family movie nights.

If you go to a big box retailer and pick one up, you have no idea of when it was popped. If you go to the Great American Popcorn Works in Telford, they will pop it while you wait.  Now which one would you rather receive?

Apparently, they had customers come over for their tin of fresh popcorn. The power of radio! Now you can show him the power of email and stop by to pick up your favorite flavor.

The Gift of Handmade Art

Something Unique and Special
artWhat do you buy for that special person who has what ever they need?

How about art?

Clay Rat Studio offers up handmade items that you won't find in a big box.

They feature artwork from 24 different artists. Seven of those artists live within the borough of Souderton. Who knew we had so much local talent? The rest live within the immediate region.

The shop is tiny but allow yourself time to explore. They have the most amazing things tucked in everywhere. As items sell, the artists bring in more.

Every day the shop is open, a different artist is manning the store. So your first question should be, "what do you make here?"

Country Gifts with Class

For Someone Who Appreciates Country

Unexpected Treasures

Upcycling is In
consign christmasConsign for Design may have moved to a smaller location this year but it has only improved his selection of merchandise.

Don't get hit by any of the design handbags that are flying out his door. The gently used (and sometimes never used) household items are drawing customers from far and wide to pick up bargains.

Located on Main Street in the Hollow, this little shop has a big selection of great gift ideas.

Don't forget the Consignment Shop in Telford in your treasure hunt. You will find them on Penn Avenue across from the Telford Christmas Tree.

Don't forget the gelato and great sandwiches at Red Tomato, or the great bar food at Greenhouse Tavern. Main Street Java is known for their coffee and their sandwiches.

A Humble Thank You...
Give live logo Our end-of-the-year fund-raising drive has been successful as residents, property owners and businesses have sent us checks in the mail and online.

Each and every one of those donations is a vote for the revitalization efforts that are visible and the plans for future activities.

We will continue to accept donations as we continue our planning for our budget and activities for 2011.

The revitalization of the two boroughs depends on the hard work and support of so many people that thanking each is impossible. From the volunteers who dedicate hours to working on projects to the homeowners who spruces up their homes, each person is contributing to the quality of life within our towns.

Souderton Telford Main Streets provides the organization that keeps the ongoing efforts focused on the community  vision. Our committees plan their work and then evaluate it to track our progress.

We always have a need for more volunteers. Contact the Main Street office to see how you can help make a difference in your community.

In the mean time, keep those donations coming. We need your support to succeed.
The Parade

I hope you did not miss it!
volunteers paradeThe Parade was another successful event.

We are so fortunate to have so many enthusiastic volunteers who are willing to direct traffic, assist groups to organize themselves and announce the parade for an hour and half.

Their willingness to meet for months ahead of the parade to organize the details make the parade day run so smoothly.

We had about 90 units in the parade with some of those units comprised of two to four vehicles. Individuals, community groups, churches and businesses were all represented throughout the parade.

We had a cameraman from Channel 6 there. They showed the parade footage at the 6 pm, 11pm and Sunday morning news.  Souderton Independent had a reporter and a photographer there.

Souderton looked great in the shots.  The people in and at the parade looked like they were cold but having fun.

We were truly Classic Towns having a Classic Christmas!
And the Tree Lighting...

A Growing Tradition
elfThe Telford Tree Lighting felts like a big neighborhood party.

The video that Souderton Independent's Bob Keeler captured shows it all.

Everyone had a great time.  We had carolers, Santa, a fire truck, a seven-foot elf, homemade cookies and hot chocolate. What more do you need? A goat!?!
And Now A Word for Our Sponsors!

Their Generosity Makes Our Day
The Parade costs money. Consequently, we make a limited number of sponsorship opportunities available to our local businesses. We provide a chance for our sponsors to be a very visible part of our event. They make the event financially possible. We all win!

This year, we had two outstanding community partners step up to become sponsors.

They make it possible for us to advertise outside our immediate community and to cover unexpected costs. We did not expect to need an extra port-a-john at the Park this year but we could handle it with no worries thanks to our generous sponsors.

QNB logoQNB's goal is to
help you achieve your goals by providing a total financial relationship built upon exceptional personal service and a sincere interest in your success.

Based in Quakertown, they have a branch in Souderton to serve our local finacial needs.

AlmacAlmac is a new member of our local business community. We welcome them as they bring new jobs and opportunities to the Indian Valley.

Almac provides technology and service solutions to the pharmaceutical and biotech industries that help them get their drug to market in a more efficient way.

The 2011 Parade has one sponsor committed, Harleysville Savings Bank.  We are looking for at least one more sponsor. Contact us if you are interested in the details for this unique marketing opportunity!
