| October 15, 2010 | E-Update Souderton Telford Main Streets
|
|
Dear Reader,
Where to start? September and October seem to be the absolutely busiest times of the year. Consequently, this is a rather long missive.
If you live or own a business in the boroughs of Souderton or Telford, you will be receiving a mailing from Souderton Telford Main Streets regarding a fund-raising campaign. We are encountering the same fiscal challenges of every other non-profit organization in the country.
However, we are confident that with the support of our neighbors, we can keep our sights on the many revitalization goals that we have set before us and we will prevail through this challenging time.
Fortunately, we were successful in having the IRS determine our organization to be a 501(c)3 nonprofit. This means that when you make a donation to our program, it is tax deductible to extent allowed by law.
You can show your support to the revitalization of our communities by making a contribution by mail or online at our website.
Your friends and neighbors are donating time and energy to accomplish the award winning projects and programs of Main Streets but we also need financial contributions to accomplish our goals.
At the Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce's Business Expo, many people stopped by to tell us how much they appreciate receiving the variety of news in this newsletter. We appreciate the feedback.
Every day we receive more news by email to share with you. It is gratifying to be a conduit of information to you.
Thank you for subscribing to this newsletter. Please share it with your colleagues, friends and family.
Sincerely,
|

Souderton Historic District Moves Closer to Approval
On October 5, 2010, The Pennsylvania Historic Preservation Board approved the Souderton Historic District and recommended it to the National Park Service for approval.
This Board has the assignment to look at each application with a critical eye and make sure that it firmly meets the stringent criteria for a designated Historic District.
The sharpest question we received was whether we chose only the best buildings to showcase in the power point presentation.
Shelby Splain, who prepared the nomination application for STMS, assured the Board that she had submitted over 600 photos capturing the 418 structures in the district and streetscape views. She only chose a representation of some of the different styles.
A Board member commented that she visited Souderton in anticipation of the meeting and that we have a weak collection of commercial buildings compared to some communities but the quality of the residential areas more than made up for that weakness. The vote passed unanimously.
The final step is approval from the National Parks Service. That ruling should arrive about the end of December. |

Watch for the Postcard
Keep an eye out for the 2010 Souderton Holiday Parade postcard.
They will be mailed to past participants, Indian Valley Chamber Members and distributed through out the community.
This year, the card is based on a photo submitted by Gwen Cukierski.
It captures this year's theme of "Classic Towns, Classic Christmas" with a shot of a young girl watching the Big Red Band marching past Main Street Java's windows.
The graphic design of the postcards was donated by Josh Zeigler of JCZ Design.
He is a new member of the Promotions Committee and he fits in well with all the other hard-working, fun-loving volunteers.
Special thanks to our 2010 Parade and Holiday Fun Sponsors, Almac and QNB.

 | Local Business Has Fundraising Ideas
|
| |
An Easy Way to Help
Amy Purcell at Zeigler Beverage Company has been working with Ruth and Company to quietly raise funds over the past summer.
Ruth sold cold Pink Lemonade to her customers over the summer. She raised almost $300 for Alex's Lemonade Stand.
Amy notified me that Zeigler's can sell 48 packs of the 8 oz. cider for $15.00. Asking for a 1.00 donation would be fantastic; each case would allow every business to donate $33.00.
Zeigler's also has a 16 oz Green Tea that would also be a great item to use a fund raiser. Both products should stay under refrigeration.
If you are interested in helping the Souderton Pool or any other local nonprofit, call Amy at 215-855-5161 x184 or at 215-855-0769 or email her.

 | Unusual Halloween Idea
|
| |
A Healthy Alternative
This year, instead of the usual candy handouts, consider a healthier and more nutritious treat for your family and whoever shows up at your door.
Popcorn Works in Telford sent over this note.
"We offering our All Natural popcorn in convenient 1 ounce bags. They come 24 to a case.
Thank you for considering this healthy alternative to the usual candy you hand out every year. Kids, and their parents, love our popcorn and you'll feel better about making the right choice. "
We can stop by the store in Telford to pick up our case to share and enjoy. They would taste great in a bagged lunch, too. |
