| E-Update Souderton Telford Main Streets
Univest Grand Prix Edition II

|
|
|
Dear Reader,
You have been getting more emails than normal through the past few weeks as I try to keep you updated on the changes to this year's Univest Grand Prix as well as the normal flood of September events.
This should be the last email dedicated to the Univest Grand Prix.
With the crowds staying in town all day with the new course, the businesses have really come up with some great ways to showcase themselves before the new people wandering through town. We will be circulating a flier to direct visitors throughout the race area.
Our Media Gurus, Robert Brecker and John Ralston, have really outdone themselves. They are hijacking www.stmainst.org for Race Day!
Seriously, they have cloned the site and will have the front page full of everything you could want to know about the race. From streaming video for WFMZ to commentary stream from WNPV, www.stmainst.org will be your one-stop service for everything UGP.
You can sign up to a texting service that will feed you all the Facebook, Twitter and text messages in one service on your smart phone and scrolling on our website. You can join in the fun by posting what you see. Our text service will only be operational for the Race.
A few articles below will be recycled but the information is still important.
Don't forget the Young Professional's Mixer at the Caboose Grille this evening!
Share this email with your friends and neighbors so they can stay up-to-date on Saturday.

For Your Planning Convenience
The Univest Grand Prix will be held on Saturday, September 11, 2010.
The Cyclosportif riders will begin gathering by 7 am for their 8 am start. They will ride the finishing circuit ( in green on the map above) until 10 am.
Registration for the Shimano Youth Series is from 9 am to 10 am. The kids will race from 10:15 am to 11 am. Ages 3-5 on Big wheels and trikes, ages 6-8, ages 9-10 and ages 11-13 all on bicycles compete in this.
The Pro Race sign-in begins at 10:30 am, staging at 11:10 am and the start will be at 11:30 am with a finish approximately at 2:45 pm.
For the first phase of the race, you will see the racers fly by every 14 minutes or so. When they move to the Finishing Circuit, they will be going past about every 3 to 4 minutes. We will all be at the edge of our seats by that point!
Imagine facing the Wile Avenue Hill every three minutes at full speed with competitors so close you will be able to touch them with an elbow.
A special section of the Grand Prix website is dedicated to the information that the spectators will need. Check it out!

Facebook Contest is a First for STMS
We don't know for sure how this will work but I have been assured that is the way social media operates... making it up as we go along.
We are going to have a photo contest on Facebook for everyone who is hosting a UGP house/yard/porch party to watch the race.
Take a photo of your porch and/or your party in full swing. Post it in a gallery on our Facebook page. Comment on the other photos that have been posted.
We will pull together a team of exhausted, hungry and thirsty volunteers after the race to choose the winners in a very unscientific and biased manner. Winners will be posted on Facebook at some point over the weekend... or maybe Monday. It's going to be a long weekend.
Categories for the photo contest are open to residential parties located along the course of the Univest Grand Prix. We will judge the photos by the following categories: Largest Party, Most Patriotic, Best Theme, Team Spirit, Most Cowbells.
Please keep all the photos clean. This is a family-oriented contest and we will delete inappropriate photos and comments.
We will be looking for enthusiasm, fun and creativity in each category.
Winners will be able to pick up their prizes at the STMS office at 18 Green Street, Souderton next week.

 | Breakfast and Brunch Opportunities
|
| |
Early Morning Activities
Come early and find a delicious breakfast or brunch in town.
Some places are always open early for breakfast. You can can a great traditional breakfast at Souderton Family Restaurant, Apple Orchard Cafe and Main Street Java.
Other businesses are opening up to offer something special. The Caboose Grille is taking advantage of being in the center of everything and will offer breakfast and other choices.
Trattoria Lombardo is taking advantage of their outdoor seating on a dog leg on Reliance Road as racers move from Fourth Street in Souderton to Third Street in Telford. They will offer breakfast in the form of pepper and egg sandwiches followed by a large menu of great food throughout the race. Sausage sandwiches with onions and peppers, anyone?
Gina Marie's Restaurant and Lounge on Reliance Road is enthusiastically embracing the race with a brunch all morning long.

 | More Food Options!
|
| | No One Should Go Hungry at the Grand Prix
This year, visitors and locals alike will enjoy exploring all the food options that we will have available at the Univest Grand Prix.
Pizzas and sandwiches are always popular on race day. Broad Street Pizzeria, New Station Pizza and Lisa's Pizza will all offer up their best on Saturday.
Red Tomato, Caruso's, Main Street Java, Wawa, Greenhouse Tavern and Caboose Grille will all have sandwiches and other goodies to tempt your appetite.
We also have some interesting ethnic choices. Xinantecatl Mexican Grill and El Aquarcate both offer different cuisines from south of the border in downtown Souderton.
Don't risk the chance of getting thirsty at your party. Although both businesses sit close to the Race Course, North Penn Beverage in Souderton and Jay Stover Distributor in Telford will be open to provide you with beer and soft drinks.
Finally, if the weather is hot. Cool down with a gelato from Red Tomato or a frozen drink from Main Street Java.
Yes, no one should leave hungry.

 | Pamper Yourself on Race Day
|
| |
Visitors will be Pampered
For many spouses, a trip to Souderton to serve as a support team for a rider in the Cyclosportif or the Univest Grand Prix is a very long day.
Our local salons will be opening early to offer someplace to be pampered while waiting for their rider. Ruth Senese from Ruth and Company suggested this and everyone else jumped on the opportunity.
Diane's Nails and Kristen's Hair Design on Front Street will be open early. Chrysalis Hair Design and Ruth and Company will both be open early to welcome visitors to Souderton.

 | Don't Forget to Buy Something Special
|
| |
Interesting Shopping Choices
Downtown Souderton does not have a lot of shopping opportunities but what we have are worth visiting with out-of-town guests.
Consign for Design has a cool promotion for Saturday. Every customer will receive a free Philadelphia baseball " shout out" seat cushion with purchase while supplies last!
Corner Breeze Antiques and Country Store will be open early and feature a great selection of one-or-a-kind items.
Heartwarming Treasures has a wonderful hostess gift selection. Hint, hint.
N.F. Landis showroom will be open for visitors who want to compare the cost of appliances at locally-owned store to the cost of buying at a big box. They may be very surprised at the difference.
Clay Rat Studios will be open all day in conjunction with the Univest Grand Prix. There
will be a some additional art displayed on the porch, and cold water for
the thirsty. Come visit and see the latest art from all our local
artists, and enjoy the race.
All unique and all special. Well worth the stroll to explore our shops in the core of the race course.

 | New Plaza Part of the Fun
|
| | Two Plazas will Double the Fun
The new Sculpture Plaza will have its first opportunity to serve as a setting for a large event. The Children's Plaza will be located there on Saturday as part of the day's festivities.
This will draw people along Broad Street without missing any of the 16 laps of the race.
Of course, the Univest Plaza will be packed with booths of sponsors, vendors and local businesses at the Community Expo. Take a moment to wander through to see what is offered and to say hello to friends and neighbors working in the booths.

The Montgomery Theater is back in full swing with the production of Everybody Loves Opal by John Patrick, directed by Tony Braithwaite.
Opening night is Saturday with previews on Thursday and Friday evenings.
Stop by the Theater on Saturday to purchase your tickets and keep the day's fun rolling into the evening.
This show sounds like another off-beat comedy that the Montgomery Theater does so very well. You don't want to miss it.

Welcome the World
Once a year, the World comes to the Souderton area to see world-class professional bicycle racing in person and through the broadcasts on television and online. This year we will encounter many changes from the way the race was run over the past 12 years. On one hand, it will disrupt our Saturday morning routines a bit more. On the other hand, the entire day will be full, busy and exciting. Please bear with all the changes. We are so fortunate to have a professionally-run, signature event to draw the region and the world into our community. Let's make sure they understand why Souderton and Telford are Classic Towns of Greater Philadelphia! The same factors that qualified our towns as Classic Towns, quality of life, ongoing revitalization, cultural attractions, strong business climate, will draw visitors back to explore our community. Welcome our visitors with a smile. They are fortunate that we have invited them to our community to share in this wonderful event. Let's make sure their experiences here are memorable ones. |
