| E-Update Souderton Telford Main Streets
|
|
|
Dear Reader,
Two-thirds of the summer has passed. the final month will skip past before we know it.
We still have loads of things to do this summer but we also need to start registering for fall events.
The big news for this week is the visit from NBC10 for their 10! Show on Wednesday morning. Join us in watching the taping or afterward when we watch the show at 11 am in Main Street Java. See the details below.
Once again, Souderton Telford Main Streets has been accredited as a 2010 National Main Street Program! We have met all ten performance standards and criteria required by the National Trust for Historic Preservation's National Main Street to be named as accredited.
The Pennsylvania Downtown Center evaluated our 2009 performance and recommended us. It's rather satisfying to be recognized by professional organizations outside outside our communities.
We are in very good company. See the list of designated communities in Pennsylvania here.
The Pennsylvania Downtown Center is a non-profit that works to help communities across the state to make their towns and neighborhoods a better place.
I was elected to their Board of Directors in June at the state conference. Although this will require me to be out of the office occasionally, I look forward to helping PDC to better assist our local communities.
This is the second time I have served in this position and I enjoy renewing contacts with an amazing network of dedicated professionals across the Commonwealth.
As everyone takes their final vacation before the kids return to school, I hope you are looking at the communities where you are vacationing with an eye to what makes them special.
Now, how would a visitor view Souderton and Telford? That is going to be a key question as we move forward. Give it some thought.

Each week, we have a set group of vendors who are there every Saturday with vegetables, fruits, beef, wine, coffee and baked goods. Each week, your friends and neighbors are stopping by to enjoy the fruits of the vendors' labors. Each week, we are looking for you from 8:30 am to 12:30 pm on Saturday mornings to join us in the center of Telford at the Marketplace for Telford Station. More Excitement in Souderton & Telford
The course for the Univest Grand Prix has been changed for this year's race.
Souderton Telford Main Streets will be setting up a special area of our website especially for spectators, businesses and residents who want to know more about the race. We are still gathering the information and maps and should have it all up next week.
Essentially, the race will be focused in Souderton, Telford and Franconia with the racers zipping by every 14 minutes. They will no longer disappear from town for hours before returning to finish the race.
Of course, they are still having the Cyclosportif to benefit the Penn Foundation and the kids will be racing in the morning. We just get to see all the action all day long.
So start planning now to invite your friends and family to join you at the race on Saturday, September 11. Volunteer for the Penn Foundation to help with logistics on Race Day.
Sign up your business to participate at the Univest Plaza or the new Sculpture Park. Details at our website.
Watch our Facebook and our website for information you will need to enjoy the day to the max!

Broad Theater Update
If you read the local papers, you know that the Souderton Borough Council passed the Souderton Main street Revolving Loan Fund into existence.
They also agreed to loan $500,000 to the Broad Theater so they can begin construction.
Fortunately, after a three year wait, the contracting and distribution of funds went quickly and the Borough actually has the funds in-hand.
Don't expect to see the construction vehicles pulling up too quickly. This loan fills the gap between the funds that were available to the Broad Entertainment Group and what the project will cost. Consequently, they still need to finalize the paperwork with their bank. It will be another month or two until the serious work will actually begin.
In the mean time, you can tell your friends and family that we can look forward to watching movies in the Broad Theater next summer. We will also be dining there, enjoying live shows and holding corporate meetings in this complex.
But what we all really want to see is something on the big screen. It's coming.
Follow the progress at the Facebook page for the Broad Theater.
