Election Day is coming up rapidly. The Souderton Area Soccer League wants to take advantage of the turnout for the election to conduct a food drive for our local food banks.

So on Tuesday, November 3, bring food, baby formula and diapers with you to the polls in Souderton and Telford for the Souderton Area Soccer League players and parents to take to the local food banks.

soccer ball w flagThese kids and their parents are ambitious.  They are hosting two soccer tournaments on November 7 and 14 with 30 to 40 teams attending.  They have challenged these out-of-town teams to also bring non-perishable items and diapers to the tournament for our local food banks.

So now you have two reasons to come out to the local polls- to vote in the election and to support the Souderton Area Soccer League's food drive. Let's support the community spirit of these local athletes.

It's Always Sunny in Pennsylvania?
solar homeThe race to the sun is officially on in Pennsylvania.

Rebates of up to 35 percent are available on a first-come, first-served basis to owners of homes and small businesses looking to offset the cost of buying and installing solar-energy systems.

The price of an average 5-kilowatt residential unit is $35,000 to $40,000. Experts say that investment will be recouped in eight to 10 years - through reduced energy costs and from selling unused power into the grid and alternative energy credits to utilities.

Another impetus to going solar now, Rendell said, is the likely event of double-digit rate increases by utilities when state caps are lifted in 2011.

Updating Our Future
The Boroughs of Souderton and Telford, Souderton Telford Main Streets and the Montgomery County Planners are working with teams of volunteers from each borough on updating the Revitalization Plan.

The original Revitalization Plan was done in 2001 and has resulted in many projects in both boroughs, including the formation of the Main Street program. The time line for that plan was seven years and now is the time to update it. Hard hat

You are invited to participate by completing questionnaires and attending public meetings. A special area on the Souderton Telford Main Streets website has been dedicated to this project. We will use this section to keep you updated on the progress of this process.

Right now, your input is needed on the questionnaires that are posted there. Please complete one or both of the questionnaires and return it to the Main Street office by email, fax or regular mail. We will make sure they get to the committees and the County Planners for their use.
