Flash Mob in New York
Dear Reader,
September has arrived and everyone is busy.  It seems like the kids going back to school is a reminder to the rest of us to move into high gear.  We have been hit with emails about a wide variety of activities and programs that may interest you.

Once again, I want to thank you, our faithful readers, for responding to the various calls for action found in our emails. Our partners tell us that they can tell when our email hit your inboxes.  You are emailing and calling to offer your help.

That kind of response is such a part of the life in the Indian Valley that we don't appreciate how special it is. The willingness to help when needed is just part of the fabric of this community. So thank you for all your assistance.

Pam Coleman
Main Streets Manager

Business Roundtable Skipped a Week
According to our second Tuesday of the month scenario, we should have had a Business Roundtable on the Tuesday after Labor Day. Who would have remembered?

So we moved it to Tuesday, September 15 at 12:30 at Trattoria Lombardo's. This is the new name of a Roundtable favorite, La Casetta.  They changed the name to honor their father, the late Joe Lombardo.

Come enjoy a delicious lunch and catch up with everything that is going on with Main Streets and the businesses that attend the Roundtable.  This is your chance to give your feedback on the progress of the revitalization efforts.

RSVP to Erika and she will reserve the tables for our group.

Volunteers needed at the Main Street Booth at the Community Expo
Once again, Souderton Telford Main Streets will have a booth at the Univest Grand Prix's Community Expo. We need volunteers to man the booth for one hour segments from set up at 8:30 am to tear down at 2:30 pm.

Call Erika at 215-723-6627 and let her know when you can help. We will have a display and booth.  In the past, we had volunteers coming and going all day long. It made for a festive day.

Of course, if the weather turns foul, we won't set up the booth but the weathermen are predicting a perfect day!

Farmers' Market News
ZukeCome out on Saturday morning before the race to stock up on veggies, fruit, wine, coffee and baked goodies for the weekend. Bring the kids for some fun activities coordinated by a local youth fellowship group. The Indian Valley Farmers' Marketis amazing this season!

Save Saturday, September 19 for the Veggie Races. This was postponed because of the only day of rain we have had this season. The fun starts at 10 am. Come be creative and competitive with veggies. And your mother won't mind if you play with your veggie that day!

Race Maps
If you are looking for a map of the race, here it is. This will let you know if the race is coming through your neighborhood.

Parade Registration Open
You can now register online for the 51st annual Souderton Holiday Parade! We already have several groups who have registered since it went live on September 1. Let's see if we can come close to last year's record of 100 units in the parade.

grand prix 09We are proud to announce that Harleysville Savings Bank is our name sponsor for this year's parade. They are opening a new branch office on County Line Road in February and saw this as a great way to let our local community know they are coming.

Career Day
The "brain drain" is a reality for Pennsylvania. We do an outstanding job of educating our students and when they graduate from college, they leave the state. Let's start indoctrinating them into the idea that Pennsylvania and, specifically, the Indian Valley, is a great place to work and live.

Show local students what you do and love at your business by signing up online for the Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce's Career Day on October 6, 2009. Check out their website for details.

Let's start influencing the kids at a young age.

Calendar Sharing
We are proud to announce that we now are sharing calendars with the Reliance Inn. This means that you can check the STMS website to see what is going on at the Reliance Inn.

We use Google calendar for our website.  So if your organization would like to share your calendar on ours, it is very easy to set up. We encourage anyone who has events and activities open to the public to join us.

Ladies Night out with the Phillies
Ruth and co. Ruth and Company took part in the Phillies Ladies Night Tent Party at Citizens Park Stadium in Philadelphia on Tuesday September 1, 2009. They had a blast. grand prix 09

Owner, Ruth Senese reported, "The Phillies beat the San Francisco Giants that night!!!!! Score 1-0. Sorry no Jamie Moyer pi
tching but we did get to see him warming up in the bullpen!"

She also sent over some photos.

Shine A Light
American Express, in partnership with NBC Universal, invites you to "shine a light" on a small business you find inspiring. Nominate your favorite Mom 'n Pop. It could win $100,000 and you could win $3,000.

Does our Main Street have a business that has adopted an innovative approach to surviving tough times? Does it believe in a customer-first mentality? Does it give back to the community? Join American Express in celebrating small businesses by telling the story of a business in your community. Deadline: September 13, 2009.

This should be easy! Either make an application on your own or contact the Main Streets office to alert us to a business that you think should be nominated!  With the many businesses in our area that help out so many others, the challenge is picking only one to nominate.

Walkable Communities
walkable community"Walkability" and Wealth Downtown. Can the walkability of your Main Street translate into dollars and cents?

A new report for CEOs for Cities, "Walking the Walk," says YES!  Walkability not only builds traffic for businesses and adds vibrancy to the street; it is also linked to higher property values. Calculate your community's walk score and find out how your community rates.

This is serious food for thought. How can we improve the walkablity of Souderton and Telford?

This studyshows the link between the revitalization efforts of Souderton Telford Main Streets and residential property values.

Questing
Questing: an award-winning place-based education model of creating and exchanging treasure hunts to collect and share the community's distinct natural and cultural heritage-our special places and stories.

The Heritage Conservancy is offering a two-day workshop featuring this model on Thursday and Friday, September 24th & 25th, 9:00 A.M. - 4:00 P.M., Historic Idenhofen Farmstead, SE Corner of Skippack Pike & Evansburg Road,  Skippack, Montgomery County, PA.

Through this workshop you will learn how to develop curriculum and materials to serve your organization and community.  You'll leave with skills, tools and enthusiasm that you can immediately apply. To sign up, contact Joyce Austin at 215-345-7020 x114 or email
