|
| Dear Reader, |
The calendar says August and many people are still squeezing
in a vacation but this email is filling up as if it were September. The
traditional lull of July and August seems to have evaporated this year.
We have plenty of news to share with you. From Swine Flu to Veggie Racing, we have plenty to fill your calendar.

History Day at the IVFM
|
How well do you know the history of Souderton and
Telford? How well do your kids know
local history? Take the Local History challenge this weekend at the Indian
Valley Farmers' Market and find out.

Wendy Leshinskie has put together fun quizzes for kids and
adults to test their local history knowledge. She also has some very
interesting displays of old photos that will have you looking around at the
buildings in a new light.
Of course, we will also have all the wonderful vendors in
the market that you have come to know and love.
Right now, the tomatoes taste like completely different vegetables that
the things called tomatoes at any other time of the year. They drip with
flavor. Add some fresh basil, a loaf of French bread and a glass of wine for a
perfect hot summer meal.
Breaking News: Ridge Valley Farm will have Maple syrup at the Market this Saturday! Sweet!

Univest Grand Prix Invitation!
|
We are still encouraging everyone to participate in the wonderful community festival that is part of the annual Univest Grand Prix in Souderton. This year looks to be a banner year for participation in the festival. You don't want to miss it.
This i s your chance to present your business or community group to the happy crowds that congregate for the race.
Everything you need to register for a booth is available on our home page.
When every advertising dollar has to count...here's your chance to have a four-color, three-dimensional, interactive ad at the race. How cool is that?
|
Univest Grand Prix Ripple Effect
|
Canon Capital has created a tradition beloved by staff and
clients. They hold a big party in their
parking lot with a big screen TV to watch the race when it is not flying past
them on the street.
Several residents living on Wile Avenue and Main Street turn
the day into a porch party for friends and family. Many families make it a
tradition to volunteer for the race. Others ride the Cyclosportif as a group.
Univest has their VIP tent with food, chairs and camaraderie
as the race flies by.
The Reliance Inn is working up their plans for the day. Last
year in the pouring rain, sitting at their bar, watching the race on television
with an Irish coffee would have been enticing.
Stay tuned as Tony and Vickie share their plans.
What
do you plan to do as a resident or a business this year? Please share your
ideas so we can inspire others.

|
We received an email from the Keystone Center in Washington,
DC asking for help In getting out the
word on a meeting with the Centers for
Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) on the topic of the swine flu vaccine
program this fall.
It is an op portunity to show what the CDC have been doing to
prepare, what the state and local health departments are doing, and also hear
from community members what they are worried about or would like to see done.
There will be lots of room for discussion, so that's what they are looking for-
regular people's views!
The meeting will be held on Saturday, August 22, from 9 am
to 3 pm at the Crowne Plaza Hotel in Trevose. There is no fee to participate
and they will provide breakfast, lunch and refreshments.
You can register online or call 1-866-276-6485. We posted the flyer
on our website for your convenience.
The flyer says Bucks County so I called to make sure
Montgomery County residents are welcome. The contact from Keystone Center said that
everyone in SE PA is welcome.

One Life One Chance
Souderton/Telford, the Fight for Our
Children Against
Prescription and OTC
Drug Abuse is her crusade to educate parents and students about the dangers that are available everyday. She has been blessed with a team who share her mission.
On Saturday, September 19, Justina and a group of dedicated parents, friends and family are hosting an event from 10 am to 2 pm in the Souderton Community Park. They will lead a walk through Souderton and Telford to make people aware of the magnitude of the problem. They will then have booths for organizations and speakers that can offer help to
students facing issues out of their control.
If you want to help, email Justina and she can explain what kind of help they need to make the day a success.
This is a deadly epidemic that is quietly affecting our community. Justina and her team are dedicated to shining a light on this issue to educate students and parents so we don't lose more kids to this killer.
