Dear Reader,
|
To everyone who called, email or spoke with our local state Senators, thank you. Although they passed the proposed budget that cut Main Street and Elm Street funding, they heard us. Next week, I will have a far more organized campaign from the Pennsylvania Downtown Center with sample letters, scripts and a petition. Over the next six weeks, we will see a raging battle in Harrisburg as two very different fiscal philosophies battle to create a balanced budget. We need to speak up and talk as one voice from across the state in defense of a program that is a proven economic engine. During a recession, you don't cut a program that is returning life to our small towns and neighborhoods by leveraging, supporting and encouraging private investment. To everyone who has offered to help spread the word, thank you and sit tight until I have all the material we need to share a unified message. I was very moved by the number of people who called, emailed and stopped by to share their support of Souderton Telford Main Streets. I do have the best job in the world! Now on to the news you always expect from our office. Pam Coleman |

RSVP, Please
|
Business Roundtable will be held on Tuesday, May 12 at Lisa's Pizza at 12:30pm.
Please RSVP so we can reserve seats at this busy lunch spot. They graciously allow us to push tables together so we need to know who will be there!
The Business Roundtable is a monthly networking opportunity for anyone interested in learning about ongoing revitalization activities and meeting fellow community business people. New people are always welcome whether you are a business owner, manager or a resident.
RSVP to Erika so we know how many seats to reserve. |
We Love Good Press
|
We always love to see good press about our local businesses. Sequan Lan from Melodia Grill keeps raking in the good reviews. This reviewer sounded like he really had to work to find anything he did not like. Tiger Press in Telford received a wonderful story about their new presses in the Reporter. We can always count on the Montgomery Theaterto generate great press. From the winners of a poster contest, to reviews of the latest show in the Intelligencer, the Souderton Independent and the Philadelphia Inquirer, they generated great buzz on the current shows. Monday at 12:30 we will be doing another ribbon cutting. This time it will be to celebrate Serendipity Spa moving to Main Street in Souderton. Last week, we held a ribbon cutting for the Village Center Properties. They have done a beautiful job of renovating the old Furniture Mart in Souderton. This project will bring many new faces in to our towns as it is leased. Wielding the big scissors, Dave Halliday is surrounded by Mayor Reynolds and other community well-wishers in this photo in the lobby. |
Oh, the thinks you can
think!
|
Don't miss the
Montgomery Theater, Jr.'s musical production of "Seussical,
Jr."!
"I
can see that you've got quite a mind for your age!
Why, one Think and you dragged me right onto the stage!
Now, I'm here, there is no telling what may ensue
With a Cat such as me, and a Thinker like you!"
So
says the mischievous Cat in the Hat at the onset of this fantastical, magical,
musical extravaganza! Get more details and order your tickets at their website. |
| Be A Part of the High School Farewell |
Sam Varano will be talking to businesses through out the community. Let's make sure that downtown Souderton and Telford are well represented!
Dear Indian Valley Business or Service Organization:
On Saturday, May 30, 2009, from 10:00 AM to 4:30 PM, Souderton Area High School is hosting a final Open House at our School Lane campus. The purpose of the Open House is to allow alumni, community members, and others interested a final opportunity to visit the school.
We are hopeful that the Open House can become a whole Indian Valley community event. Therefore, we are asking Indian Valley business and service organizations to participate in the Open House by setting up a table in the high school Courtyard (in the Cafeteria if inclement weather) to sell or distribute food or merchandise, provide a service, or provide information about your organization.
If your organization is interested in participating in this nostalgic event for the Indian Valley, please complete the attached application form and return it to me by May 15th.
I hope that your organization, as an important member of the Indian Valley community, will strongly consider participating in this once-in-a-lifetime event that will lead to the closing of the high school facility on School Lane that has been a cultural pillar of the community since 1931.
Sincerely, Sam Varano, Principal on Special Assignment
The necessary form is available at the Souderton Telford Main Streets site. |
Broad Theater Update
|
The Broad Entertainment Group will be going before Souderton Borough Council on Monday, June 1 for their approval to move forward on the renovation of the Broad Theater. Anyone who wants to attend the council meeting as a show of support is welcome.
Souderton-Telford Main Streets is still waiting to receive official notice on the Anchor Building Grant that designated for this project as a loan. As the Broad Entertainment Group pays the loan back, it will become a local revolving loan fund.
At this point, it looks like that grant will be pushed into the next state fiscal year. Consequently, it is critically important that everyone who wants to see the Broad Theater open needs to help us campaign to assure that the Main Street funds are in the 2009/2010 budget.
The irony is that the DCED staff at our regional and state Main Street offices are enthusiastically supportive of this project. They love to see old theaters renovated into revitalization power houses in our towns. If the state budget were not in such chaos, this project would have been funded six months ago.

| Field to the Table Food Festival Coming |
The Promotions Committee is working hard on the Field to Table Food Festival on July 11 to kick off the Indian Valley Farmers' Market. The Market opens on July 4 with the largest and most diverse selection of vendors ever.
Restaurants in the two boroughs are encouraged to set up a booth at the food festival and sell their most portable samplings from their menus. Community groups that service the residents from Telford and Souderton are also encouraged to set up for the day.
With the attendance growing each year, this event is becoming a favorite of locals and visitors alike. What until you see what the Promotions Committee is planning for this year!
Download the festival registration material at our website. Farmers' Market registration packets are also available at the IVFM site. |
A Plea For Assistance
|
The staff at the Souderton Telford Main Streets STILL needs assistance with Filemaker Pro 9. We own software designed specifically for Main Streets but we are not using it to its full potential.
We need someone to answer questions and make sure we have it set up correctly. Could someone volunteer a few hours to set us straight so we can maximize the effectiveness of this software and the operation of our office?
Doesn't anyone use this software?

Sneak Peak
|
Ok, you read through our entire newsletter. You clicked on the links to learn more about upcoming events, read restaurant and theater reviews and saw what local businesses are doing on their websites. Here is your reward.
Be one of the first to see the look of the new Souderton Telford Main Street website. It is still under construction but we hope to make it live next week.
This link is the only access to it until that time. Please take a peak and let us know what you think. We still need to finish two moduals and transfer all the latest news that is currently on the original site.
Many thanks to the crew at Sitecats for their patience in teaching us how to use the new moduals on the site. We will be able to easily keep it filled with up-to-date news. First we had to transfer a massive amount of information on to the new site and organize it.

The windows are open. Jimmy Buffet is on the radio. I am soon headed to the Jersey shore where I will put up my feet and continue to work on the new website this weekend. Life is good.
Next week, we will take up the cause and fight for the Main Street funding. Now we are all off to thank our Mothers for being Mom.
