Rememberance...

As the first hint of spring is in the air, we are reminded of the turn of seasons. It is with a heavy heart that we bring news of the passing of two individuals who quietly supported our communities' revitalization.

Pat Halteman was an inspiration to the Design Committee with her love of beautiful flowers. Many people did not know that Pat took it as her personal mission to assure that the gateway near the clock and the intersection of Main and Broad Streets were always vibrant with color.

Long before the Main Street program started in Souderton and Telford, Pat epitomized the spirit of Main Street volunteerism. She spent countless hours planting, pruning and caring for the flowers that added beauty and color to downtown Souderton.

Pat was an employee of Univest for many years when she began to care for the flower beds. Long after she retired, Pat cared for the flowers that so many of us enjoyed on our daily commutes through town.

Pat passed away this week after an extended illness. The viewing at Calvary Church, Route 113 in Souderton, will be held on Thursday from 9 am to 11 am with the funeral service held at 11 am. Our deepest sympathy to Pat Halteman's family and friends.

Last week, we lost a gentleman who was a quiet cheerleader for the revitalization of the Marketplace at Telford Station. John Ralston, father of our webmaster and Promotions Committee chair, John Ralston, Jr., passed away.

Mr. Ralston always had a cheerful comment to make about the progress of the Marketplace as the construction progressed. When the project was done, he was often spotted riding his bike to the Treats by the Tracks to check on everything.

Mr. Ralston especially enjoyed riding in the Sitecats car during the Souderton Holiday Parade. His smiling face will be missed at the Marketplace and around Telford at all his daily stops.

Once again, our deepest sympathy to his family and friends.

Every community has these quiet heroes who make daily life so much richer. Whether they are sharing their love of flowers or a welcoming smile, our lives are richer because we share a community with them.

Take a moment to remember these quiet heroes and honor them by saying hello to a neighbor, planting a beautiful flower or finding another way you can make a difference in our communities.
