In March, Souderton-Telford Main Streets worked with Congressman Charles Dent's staff to arrange a visit to the two boroughs. An unexpected ice storm suddenly changed the agenda. Consequently, the Congressman did not have the opportunity to do all that he wanted that day. Tuesday, August 21 he will be returning to visit and no ice storms are predicted.

The tour will once again include businesses and organizations in the two boroughs and the immediate vicinity. Although he will be visiting Asher's Chocolates, Indian Valley Boys and Girls Club, the Montgomery Theater, and the Telford Train Station, the best time to visit with the Congressman will be at the Senior Adult Activity Center of Indian Valley.

He will be recognizing former Mayor Charles Allebach's remarkable service to the community in person at a luncheon at SAAC. After the luncheon, Congressman Dent will be available for what his staff calls "Office Hours" from 1 pm to 2 pm. He will be talking to whoever stops by to visit. No appointments are necessary; just stop by SAAC to chat. SAAC is located at 259 N. 2nd Street, Souderton.

Let's make sure he has a busy hour of interaction with the local community as he updates us on his activities in Washington, D.C.

Congressman Dent will return to town on Wednesday, September 12 for the Federal Transportation Forum hosted by the Indian Valley Chamber of Commerce. This luncheon wills tart at 11:30 am sharp at the Indian Valley Country Club. Watch for details on the IVCC website next week.

  • What is Your Vision for Souderton and Telford?
  • That is the key question that will be asked at a public meeting on Thursday, September 13 at 7 pm at SAAC. The Board of Directors of the Souderton-Telford Main Streets is hosting a structured public meeting to gather public input on recrafting an updated Vision for the community.

Why go through this process, again? The original vision statement was created when the organization was formed about five years ago. Since then so much has happened in the two boroughs that the vision needs to be updated. Come be a part of shaping the focus for STMS's work over the next 5 to 7 years.

  • Where is Tilly Mint's?
  • Trish at Tilly Mint's

Tilly Mint's Tea Room hung their new sign on Thursday, August 16. When you pass 20 Chestnut Street, Souderton, you will see the beautiful new sign hanging outside the soon-to-open Tea Room. STMS provided a Design Challenge Grant for the sign. Owner Trish Stubbs has been creating a lovely oasis for relaxing over tea. She is about three weeks away from opening the tearoom and gift shop that has been her life-long dream.

  • Excellence Abounds
  • Indian Valley Housing Corporation proudly announced that they achieved certification in June from the PA Assoc, of Nonprofit Organization (PANO). This means they have met 56 different criteria for Excellence in governance, management and programs. The process of preparing the application for the peer review took 11-months of work by the Board and staff!

This is no minor recognition. Only 38 nonprofit organizations in Pennsylvania have achieved this status since this program was started by PANO four years ago. They are the first human services agency serving Montgomery and Bucks Counties to be certified.

We always knew that Indian Valley Housing was an asset to our community. Now that fact is recognized at the professional level! Congratulations to our neighbors! Job well done!
