Is it August Already??

I live in Cleveland, Ohio.  I hate the winters here, because well, I hate snow and cold.  I'll admit it; I LIVE for the summer weather.

The summer of 2009 in Cleveland is going to go down as the 3rd coldest summer in history.  I'm not happy.

However, I will stay positive and think of all those days when I didn't feel bad about not being outside, because I was in my office working.

This month's ezine has a few tips and ideas and focuses on ATTITUDE and how important it is in your business - hope you enjoy.  If there is something specific you'd like to see covered in an upcoming ezine, please email me and let me know.

To Success,

You Can't Do That!!  (Oh, really??)

Doing something that doesn't feel like work to me and enjoying the "winning" part of business is a strong combination for me and my success.  Would you like a guarantee that I WILL find a way to do something?  Well, just tell me that I can't do it...and then watch me do it.

Dr. Phil says that there are "defining" moments in our lives that chart the course of who we become.  One of those moments came for me when I was about 10 years old and playing on a girl's softball team.  I was talking to my mom at the game and proudly told her that on my next at-bat, I was going to hit a homerun.  The woman sitting next to my mom just laughed and said something to the equivalent of "Yea, right!"  That made me mad, and I remember deciding right then and there that no one was going to tell me I couldn't do something.

Before I came to bat the next time, the other team switched pitchers.  The coach called me over and told me to take a few pitches, check out the pitcher, and don't try to "kill it."  At 10 years old, I also remember thinking, "Why not kill it?  If you're going to hit the ball, why not make it really count?"

The first pitch she threw, I hit...far down the right field line.  Click the picture below to see "the" homerun...

Thinking back to this story reminds me that in business, your attitude has everything to do with your success, no matter what the work climate is like.  When I started my VA business, I thought to myself, "Whatever I have to do to make this work, I'll do it."  For me, there was no backup plan; I wasn't going to give myself an "out."  I was going to MAKE it happen.

Your mind is powerful; if you ask dumb questions, you're going to get dumb answers.  Doing better in your business and being more successful may be as simple as asking yourself better questions:

DUMB:  "Why is my business so slow?"
GOOD:  "What can I do today to get that new client?"

DUMB:  "Why does this always happen to me?"
GOOD:  "How did I get so lucky to be able to do the job I do?"

Decide today what course your business will take by committing to a better, more productive attitude.

And when you hit your next homerun, I'd love to hear about it and feature you in my next ezine.  Send me your story:  Ann@VirtualAdminsPlus.com

Backup Your Online Accounts With These Free Tools

"Cloud computing" means you can store your data in web applications and access it from any browser, anywhere - but that doesn't mean you don't need a backup plan. Safeguard your data when a storm's a-brewing in the cloud with these tools.

Next time your favorite web site is down or you're locked out of an account, make sure you've got the crucial info you need where you can get to it: on your computer.

Do You REALLY Want to Spend the Time?

Recently, a client of mine sent me an email with a desperate plea.  "PLEASE help me with this," the email said.  "I've been working on it for 2 hours, and I can't get it right."

I looked at what he wanted to do in Microsoft Word, and within 15 minutes, I had it done and sent back to him. On the phone with him later, he was telling me about his frustration level with trying to do this himself, and I said, "Next time, just send it to me, and I'll do it for you and save you the trouble."  He said, "But I really wanted to learn how to do it."

And I said... "WHY???"  He laughed and said, "You're right!"

Have you been in that situation before?  You start to do a project, thinking it will only take a few minutes, and an hour later, 1) you're still working on it and 2), you're ready to toss your computer out the window.

Again, I say..."WHY???"

Life is too short, your clients are too important, and you've got better things to do than to sweat the really small stuff in your business.  For those jobs that you know have to get done, but your time and talents are better served doing something that is building your business, call me.  I'm a trained professional, and I can help!

Five SEO Tips to Get Ranked Higher

Start With Good Keywords. Use a keyword tracker to learn more about the keywords that people are typing into search boxes to find your niche topic. For example, are they searching for a real estate agent or are they looking for homes in your area? This helps you to use the right keywords on your page, which gives you better ranking for those search terms.

Use Keywords Properly, But Not Overly. It is often a recommendation that your keyword usage be in specific locations. For example, use keywords in the title of an article, the first sentence, and then at most, one time in each of the remaining paragraphs.

Use Keywords in Meta-Tags and Hyperlinks. Right down to your website's address, use your keywords. You can also use them in the meta-tag descriptions for your website. This is likely to increase your page ranking because it shows your website is more important to the topic it is on.

Regular Content is Important. This is why so many blogs do well. Search engines like to see fresh material on a website on a regular basis. It shows them that the website is current and offering important information. In other words, keep adding quality content to your website on a regular basis and you will see an increase in your page ranking.

Get Links Coming Into Your Website. These are back links. The search engines believe that if other websites are pointing to your website, your website must have something good going for it. They then direct more traffic there. To get back links, consider doing guest blog posts, posting articles on article directories, using social networking, and social bookmarking websites.
