Mother's Day is sooner than you think.....we want to help in the gift selections!  We're helping with a subtle hint here....all project bags at Knit-a-Bit will be 20% off this week!  Namaste, DellaQ, ErinLane and BlueQ are just a few of the companies that we carry!  Bags are the perfect gift for the knitter/crocheter/mom in your life!  As a reminder, we always have gift certificates available in any denomination!

In order to celebrate Mother's Day in our own little way,  Knit-a-Bit will be
CLOSED on Sunday, May 13th!

Yarn from Seaweed??

No, you're not imagining things....we have some spectacular yarn that is actually comprised of silk, wool and seacell which uses seaweed fiber! Who knew?

Great Big Sea is 273 yards of a worsted, hand dyed yarn.  You truly have to see and feel this yarn to see what we mean when we say spectacular!  It is DIVINE!!  The colorways are subtle and unique...I can envision an elegant shawl or scarf!

In addition to the Great Big Sea, we brought in a complimentary yarn, Rumple; 100% silk in a fingering weight....it is 328 yards and again, when you see it, you will have a tough time choosing just one project!!!

Flower Head!

Did you see this adorable Flower Hat?  You could make it yourself this Tuesday, May 8th at 1:30 (or so....we're flexible with the times!) and the class is $10.00 plus materials!! This is one flower that you don't need to weed and water!!!

On Wednesday, May 9th, Cheryl will be teaching a knit Flower Washcloth class!  This is the ideal teacher gift when added to a lovely soap of choice!  I actually gave these as a gift to teachers one year and still got comments and my boys are teens now!  Consider it a gift that keeps on giving!

Gadget of the Week

Don't worry, you didn't miss previous featured gadges....this is a new feature! We can never have enough gadgets to enhance our knitting and crochet skills!

This week's gadget is a favorite among sock knitters!  The the StitchKeeper by Rollie are double point needle point protectors that will keep your stitches where they belong!  These are a MUST for anyone that uses these needles on a regular basis!  They come in a variety of sizes and lengths and they would be ideal for crochet hooks too!
Book of the Week

Are you ready to try some cables? This week's feature book from the House of White Birches, Cable Ready is a collection of 10 easy-to-master cable knitting projects.

Cablework knitting creates a visual interest and dimension to any design. Cables are easy to master and they add a look of complexity to even the simplest projects. In this book you will find 10 fashionable designs including cardigans, shrugs, scarves and cowls. And if you are looking for a quick gift  many of the cowls can be made in a weekend. One of the more outstanding patterns is the Magical Cable Cardigan which creates a unique piece that can be worn two ways.

If you are new to cabling or are looking for a quick refresher, the tutorial shows you step-by-step how to work a basic 2X2 cable. There are instructions for reading the charts and very nice photographs for each project.

Stop in this week and pick up your copy of Cable Ready @ 30% and get started on a wonderful fall cable project. Happy Knitting

We experienced a variety of weather temperatures this week but that didn't stop us from immersing ourselves in yarn!  We couldn't rave enough about Shibui Silk Cloud, swoon over the newest issue of Interweave Knits and queue up more projects as we perused new patterns from Nancy Lindberg, CocoKnits and C2 Knits!  You should stop by and see what we're talking about! We continue to be inspired to create!
