Oh my SHIBUI!!!!  If you are scratching your head in confusion let me explain!  Shibui Yarns offer a variety of yarns that are dyed in Oregon and the colors and combinations are divine!  To take a quote from their website,  'Shibui' means "elegant with a touch of bitterness" in Japanese, and we try to bring that sentiment to all of our products. Trust us, they do.  We currently have three of the yarns in stock:Silk Cloud, Staccato and Heichi as well as patterns and books.

This particular company promotes simple, classic patterns using phenomenal textiles!  I won't do the yarns justice by describing them.  This yarn is truly a tactile experience that needs to be felt in your own hands to appreciate! Come see what I mean!  I have to highlight all Shibui Yarns as this week's Yarn Spotlight!

Yarn Spotlight!

This week's yarn is the ideal trend to incorporate into your knitting or crocheting!  Eclipse from Tahki is "an airy chainette woven with metallic thread". It is available in bright colors as seen in the stores now!  It has great yardage, 160 yards to be exact and works up to 4 stitches to the inch on a size 5 needle.  There are great patterns to support this yarn and I'm intrigued by the VICKY tank in the POP CULTURE book.  It would be great in a lightweight shawl or scarf for the summer!

Did you know?

Did you know that we ALWAYS offer a 20% discount on our books?  We have a wide array of titles to choose from! Please come sit and peruse the variety of titles and become inspired to create what you see!

Did you also know that we welcome you to come sit and knit, crochet and catch up at any time....in fact, we would like to invite you to come on Wednesdays from 11:00 until you tire out to come sit!  We're adding this as an additional knitting circle!  Put it in your calendar and stop by!
Pattern of the Week

This week's featured pattern is a Knit-a-Bit favorite!  Tried and true!  The Miley Tee from C2 Knits is a great intro to top down knitting and is ideal for so many different yarns!  Not to mention, there are no seams once you are finished!  It's ready to wear! (you probably should weave in any ends before hitting the streets!) By this pattern this week and take 20% off the price!

Do you want to?

Do you want to get a few friends together and create a class?  You are more than welcome to do so!  If you can gather 4 or more people, give us a topic and time and we'll do our best to make it work!  In fact, Harriet has found this adorable afghan pattern  that is done in squares.....an ideal way to learn new techniques, socialize and create a unique heirloom!  Gather your friends, create a class to make this great blanket!

k of the Week

Have you ever found yourself wishing Knit-a-Bit was open 24/7, because you have dropped a stitch, made a boo-boo or just can't figure out what those silly knitting directions are saying? Do you want to take your knitting to the next level, but are afraid you won't be able to follow through? If so this week's featured book is for you, Teach Yourself Visually Knitting by Sharon Turner, is the next best thing to Knit-a-Bit.

The first three chapters of this book contain the perfect amount of information to educate even the least informed, without being overwhelming, not to mention the brilliant inclusion of an abbreviation chart on the inside front cover for easy reference, something every knitting book should have.

The beauty of this book is in its ability to break down something complex and provide both an easy to follow, frame-by-frame guide on how to do it (w/ instructions), while giving you a clear, concise explanation on when to use each technique. The best part is that this theme continues throughout the book. As you work your way into more advanced techniques and projects, including knitting a variety of actual garments, the book still continues to treat the user as if they're seeing all this for the first time. You rarely have to flip back to earlier chapters because the book is so effective at teaching you what you need to know from the get-go! Couple this with the dozens of picture by picture explanations of cast-ons, stitch patterns, shapes, finishing details, fixes...(I could keep going), and you've got yourself one of the easiest, most comprehensive guides around! Even the experienced knitter will find new tips or fixes that they might not have known.

There are some great useful patterns that can be adapted and embellished including hats, scarves, mittens, a felted tote, men's, women's, and children's sweaters, and socks. All of the patterns build on the skills you have learned and include clear and easy to follow instructions.

This is a must have book for a knitters library! Stop in and pickup your copy of Teach Yourself Visually Knitting this week at 30% off.

We can''t keep a secret!
