National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy

The eleventh annual National Day to Prevent Teen Pregnancy will take place on May 2, 2012. On the National Day and throughout the month of May, teens nationwide will be asked to visit  StayTeen.org to participate in a number of online activities-including the popular National Day Quiz-that deliver teen pregnancy prevention messages and challenge them to think carefully about what they might do "in the moment." The message of the National Day is simple and straightforward: Sex has consequences.

Organized by The National Campaign to Prevent Teen and Unplanned Pregnancy, the National Day has widespread support from more than 200 national organizations and media outlets who serve as official National Day partners. For more information and free National Day resources, please visit the National Day section of http://www.thenationalcampaign.org/national/.

Idaho Infant Toddler Program

Idaho Infant Toddler Program is announcing changes.  The program is undergoing a significant organizational restructuring process to centralize statewide oversight of early intervention services. They are rearranging services in three service hubs: East Hub (Regions 5, 6, and 7), West Hub, (Regions 3 and 4) and North Hub (Regions 1 and 2). Mary Jones has been promoted to a new position as the Field Operations Program Manager.  She will be supervising all regional programs and will no longer be the Part C Coordinator in the policy role with Idaho Infant Toddler Program that she has held for over 20 years. She will continue to work from the Boise central office location but will be frequently visiting each early intervention program.

Christy Cronheim has been hired as the new Infant Toddler Program Policy Program Manager (Part C Coordinator). Christy has worked in multiple roles in early intervention, including as a home-visiting developmental specialist and a program specialist in the Idaho central office.  She has diverse experience with Medicaid issues and  with data system development including the ITP Web early intervention web-based data system.

Please welcome Christy into her new role and kindly update your contact list for Part C mailings and communication to include Christy as the primary Idaho State Part C representative:

Text4Baby

A Message from ACOG President James N. Martin, MD

Text4baby Improves Women's Health

Are you offering text4baby to your pregnant patients yet? You should be.

A program of the National Healthy Mothers, Healthy Babies Coalition (HMHB), text4baby sends weekly messages directly to the mobile phones of thousands of pregnant women each day.   ACOG is a key supporter of this free, innovative way of engaging and educating our patients.

Text4baby has helped 300,000 women in the US care for their own health and get their babies off to a healthy start in life. Messages include reminders to wear seat belts and to avoid alcohol, and the importance of keeping doctors' appointments and breastfeeding.

Launched in February 2010, text4baby has sent more than 29 million maternal and child health texts to pregnant women and new moms who sign up by texting BABY (BEBE for Spanish-language content) and entering either their expected due date or newborn's age. Women receive three health-related text messages per week, with tailored content for pregnancy or the baby's first year. ACOG reviews and approves each text to ensure scientific and medical accuracy.

A study from UCAL/CAL State shows that text4baby improves patient adherence to appointments and immunizations, increases patient knowledge about maternal health and medical warning signs, and facilitated interaction with health providers. 72% of respondents reported that they talked with their doctor about a topic that they read on a text4baby message.

You can learn more about this great program, and get plenty of free material for your waiting rooms and your staff by clicking here.

It isn't often that innovative, effective programs are so friendly and free. Text4baby is definitely worth checking out.
