Here is the run down for what is going on around town this week. 

 

Thursday, Aug 11

Fern Hollow Nature Center-Natural Outdoor Classroom Playdays

Geared for children 4-8, but open to all ages, find out what there is to learn in a classroom created by nature. Every Thursday 2:00-4:00pm, weather permitting. If you are not already one of Fern Hollow's over 5000 visitors a year, you are in for a treat. Named Pennsylvania's 1st "Nature Play" area by the Arbor Day Foundation and Dimensions Educational Research Foundation, with children's activities, an Apiary and more.

Saturday, Aug 13

Annual Jaguar Car Show

From 9:00-5:00pm this Saturday the annual car show will be held.  Broad St. will be closed between Thorn and Beaver starting at 6:00am. The 30 year old show will be celebrating it's 15th anniversary in Sewickley with categories and prizes for all models Jaguars and judged by certified club judges.

Held every Saturday in the parking lot of St. James from 9:30-1:00pm.

United Methodist Church Street Carnival

Enjoy a day of family fun, food, games and more at the Third Annual Street Carnival. From 11:00-6:00pm enjoy bands, a dunk tank, and dance troops amongst other things on Thorn St. between Walnut and Broad.

Monday Aug 15

Lawn Chair Movie Night

Not really on the lawn, but actually in the library.  Bring a chair, blanket or something comfy.  The library will provide the popcorn and drinks.  You may bring your own candy.  This week's movie is "Rango" and will begin at 5:30pm.

Public Viewing

The film "Gasland" about the effect of drilling for natural gas will be shown at the library at 6:30pm.

Fun New Sport Finds Following In Sewickley

In case you have not noticed there is something funny going on in the river. Stand Up Paddleboard is the latest sports craze making waves here is Sewickley. Participants stand on something that looks a bit like a surfboard and is attached to one leg with velcro. While standing, they paddle their way down the water. Gaining enthusiasm with folks of all ages, it would seem the tricky sport has something for everyone including core strengthening, a cardio workout, or a new way to let off steam. How Urgent Is Your Emergency?

We have all been stuck in the ER for what seems like an endless wait. While urgent care requires immediate attention, less pressing matters may get a little help in the planning department. Heritage Valley is launching a mobile app called iHVHS for the iPhone which will show how many patients are currently receiving care (in real time) at a number of locations.Further plans for expansion of the app will include services such as viewing lab results and scheduling appointments.

Borough Update

Interested in the new zoning ordinance for the Borough of Sewickley? Go to the Borough website to download the new ordinance then come to the Borough Council meeting on Monday, August 15.  At this meeting the Council will be voting on new ordinance.
