Jim Rich met throughout the week with the leadership for Golden Pass Products. LLC who filed on Friday with federal regulatory agencies to add export capabilities to their world class LNG import terminal in Sabine Pass. The export facility once regulatory approvals and the final financial commitments are made will be a $10 billion dollar investment in infrastructure which will generate billions in economic growth. The expansion is a partnership of Qatar Petroleum International and ExxonMobil affiliates. The project will generate at estimated 9000 construction jobs over five years with peak employment reaching 3000 jobs. There will be hundreds of permanent jobs. This project when joined with Chenier LNG within sight of Golden Pass, represents almost $20 billion of new investment on the Sabine Neches Waterway. The August Legislative Breakfast with Congressman Ted Poe was held on Wednesday morning with a number of elected officials and over 240 business leaders in attendance. Read more and view photos here. 

 

The Regional Economic Development Initiative Committee met on Thursday at the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission. Shaun Davis provided a briefing on the status of $190 million in hurricane disaster funding about to be put to use for replacement housing. Over 1000 new homes will be built with these funds. The group further discussed economic development projects and opportunities throughout the region.


Jim Rich spoke to the Texas City-LaMarque Community Advisory Council on Thursday evening. The group of 45 area residents and plant managers were briefed on the My Town Campaign launched last year to preserve oil, gas, and petro chemistry industry jobs. New information was provided on the perils of over regulation.


Jim Rich, Ida Schossow of the Greater Orange Chamber of Commerce and Bill McCoy of the Greater Port Arthur Chamber of Commerce were the guests of Southwest Louisiana Chamber of Commerce at their annual Legis-Gator Luncheon on Friday. Updates were provided by five Louisiana Congressmen, the Louisiana Speaker of the House and their Senate President Pro Tempore. Former Louisiana Governor Buddy Roemer was the keynote.

The U.S. Chamber of Commerce "Hiring Our Heroes" event was held in Lake Charles on Tuesday, August 7. A total of 292 Veteran job seekers attended, with 96 on-site interviews conducted. Overall, the event was very successful, with over 545 resumes collected from both on-site and online Veteran job inquirers.
