Jim Rich attended the 2011 Workforce STAR Awards on Wednesday and was recognized for his five years of board service to Workforce Solutions of Southeast Texas. Chamber board members Chuck Kalkbrenner and Paul Szuch were also recognized for their fifth anniversaries.
Jim Rich and Eddie Bates, Transportation Division Chair, attended the special workshop conducted by the Jefferson County Commissioners concerning air service to and from the Jack Brooks Regional Airport. The information presented indicates 1600 passenger flights per day to and from Southeast with only 2% using the local airport. We intend to support efforts to promote the airport and the best alternatives for future development. The proximity to a major airport hub is a challenge to similar airports around the country. Airline bankruptcies, mergers, and high fuel prices also make for a difficult landscape. Any input from members is welcomed.
The Budget and Finance Division led my Michael Kiefer reviewed the chamber budget at the half way point for the year.
The Sabine-Neches Navigation District today announced the launch of its new website, www.navigationdistrict.org. The new and improved, user-friendly website features information on the Navigation District including the organization's staff and appointed commissioners, the Sabine-Neches Waterway, project details, bid packages, environmental ordinances and permits, information on operations of the navigation district and a calendar of upcoming meetings and events.
"We hope that the community and the media look to our website for accurate information about the navigation district's responsibilities, the ship channel and our efforts to improve the ship channel to ensure that Southeast Texas continues to prosper as an economic engine for the state of Texas and the United States as a whole," Paul Beard, chairman of SNND, said.
With photos, videos and expanded content, the updated and enhanced site highlights key facts about the Sabine-Neches Waterway, an economic engine that drives the economy in Southeast Texas and the U.S., and the Navigation District, the organization responsible for managing the waterway.
The Sabine-Neches Navigation District responsibly manages, advocates for and improves the ship channel and navigable waters of Jefferson County to enhance the economy, environment and quality of life in Southeast Texas. The SNND is a political subdivision of the state of Texas and has operated in Jefferson County for over 100 years. The Sabine-Neches Waterway is an engine that drives the economies of Southeast Texas and the U.S., pumping billions of dollars into the economy and providing more than 100,000 permanent jobs. Jim Rich, Greater Beaumont Chamber president, serves as commissioner for the Sabine-Neches Navigation District.
