It's that time again! You will be receiving a call from Chamber Maps (with Target Marketing) for the opportunity to advertise in the area map. This project is conducted every other year on behalf of the chamber and results in a wonderfully produced map of Beaumont and the surrounding areas.

Jim Rich and Robert Turner attended the monthly meeting of the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce Ambassadors on Monday. Robert was the featured speaker.

The Government & Public Affairs Division led by Joe Domino held their monthly meeting at the new South Park Middle School. Dr. Thomas provided a briefing on the bond construction program which will come to end shortly with the completion of Sallie Curtis Elementary School and the Field Houses and Auditoriums at West Brook and Ozen High Schools. With the construction work drawing to a close, all of the promised projects will be completed. Dr. Thomas further updated the group on test scores and dropout rates for the district. It was a very positive meeting with many areas of progress noted for a new Superintendent to build upon.

There was terror and relief when a gunman left his disabled vehicle near the front entrance of the chamber and fled to the business behind us where he took hostages. The incident ended with no further violence, but will long be remembered by the four chamber staffs that were present on Wednesday.

Jim Rich and Jessica Hill made presentations to the Economic Development District Board of Directors for the South East Texas Regional Planning Commission met on Thursday. This group is charged with the responsibility of prioritizing federal grant requests for the Economic Development Administration and for regional planning. The briefing was about our regional economic development initiative which coordinates marketing and development efforts among the economic development professionals. Many of the REDI committee members were present.
