The executive committee of the board of directors met on Tuesday morning to handle January business matters. The Long Range Planning Division chaired by Tim Sudela met immediately following the meeting to plan for the mid-year review of the programs of work.

The board of directors for the Southeast Texas Economic Development Foundation chaired by Charlie Foxworth  met on Tuesday for their quarterly meeting. Paul Latiolais provided a briefing on the Innovation and Commercialization Center at Lamar University. We also discussed loan prospects and economic development highlights.

The Transportation Division led by Eddie Bates met on Wednesday. Bart Owens was a guest who briefed the group on his development, GT Logistics, next to Valero. We also discussed the future of the gasoline tax and federal transportation legislation.

Jim Rich and Jessica attended the winter meeting of the Texas Economic Development Council in Galveston. The Southeast Texas Economic Development Foundation was a presenting sponsor. Karl Segura, Bobby Fillyaw, Kimberly Garrett were regional representatives in attendance. Two interesting topics involved the importance of water in economic development and the future of jobs.

Jim Rich was the featured speaker at the membership lunch of the Beaumont Board of Realtors on Thursday. This group is seeing improved market conditions and are optimistic about the coming year.

Robert Turner, chairman of the board of directors, represented the Greater Beaumont Chamber of Commerce during Senator John Cornyn's visit to Valero and press conference on the Keystone XL Pipeline. The Chamber has led local efforts to generate letters of support and stands united with area leaders to keep the project in the forefront of the national debate on energy policy.

Correction: Famed scientist Dr. Robert Ballard is to visit Lamar University for the JASON project on January 31.
